Cultivating Creative Minds in Oakridge

PAT - these three letters form quite a small word but what they mean is something BIG. This program identifies academic talent in students and encourages us to stretch our minds and imagination further. Many activities such as tricky logical problems, mysteries, finding hidden words in passages, creative writing and much more is the essence of PAT. The quintessence of PAT is to think “out of the box”.

PAT is a resource filled with ideas and opportunities, children learn best when they are able to relate new information to previous experiences and to ideas that are familiar. A desirable educational experience is one that challenges the child intellectually and also permits the child to have happy experiences. PAT makes the students think critically instead of simply looking up answers. PAT evokes essential questions. It stimulates deep thought and requires a longer, more involved response from the child. It also encourages critical thinking and not just memorization of facts.

15th September 2011 – Alarm clocks were reset, in most homes today morning. Children were motivated to leave their beds early while parents made arrangements to reach Lanco Hills Gate. The reason being it was a “Park and Walk to School Day”. ENVIRONMENTALLY ACTIVE Oakridgers had gathered at this point beaming with excitement for the Walk to flag off. It was a short walk indeed and each one held the spirit high of “respecting mother earth” doing their bit in supporting a cause.

While parents mingled amongst others, trying to set up a carpool system, children after the walk enjoyed a poster making session. Then it was regular school time and cars / buses came zooming in with children. By this time the participants of the walk had lined up on pavement alongside the entry road, displaying posters with catchy captions trying their best to spread the message of saving fuel and hence saving the environment.

Children from primary to the senior secondary along with teachers and parents joined hands in conserving the precious environment and spreading awareness on the significance of Car-Pooling.
