HDFC bank field trip

 

Students of Grade V went to HDFC bank on a field trip in connection with their Math topic -  Simple Interest.

The students  had  questions regarding the transactions carried out at the banks. So the Math teachers prepared a questionnaire that had the students’ questions. Students carried the questionnaire along with them and interacted with the HDFC staff members to get answers to their questions.

Added to answering to their queries, the Bank Staff members also took the students on a guided tour to the entire bank and showed them how different departments work. Students were taken to the locker area, ATM, loan section, deposit section (pertaining to the topic simple interest), cash counters. The Bank staff members were equally interested in interacting with the students.

At the end they also had a quiz for the students. The bank gave a booklet containing the meaning and importance of money and savings to all the students. This booklet was child friendly in terms of presentation and language. Overall the visit served the purpose of making students aware of banking transactions.

 

                   

                   

                  

Workshop on Learning Language through Music.

 

The teachers of Grades IV, V & VI had a workshop on Learning Language through Music by Ms. Sejuti Chakraborthy (Sr. School Teacher).It was an interactive and a rich learning experience.

Grade XII

It was in Grade 9 that I joined Oakridge. When I first walked into the school I was full of apprehensions about the school and the students here. Looking back now I feel these have been the most fruitful years of my life. I have grown here as a person. I made lot of friends here who helped me in my social interactions. My teachers have been of great help to me in my studies and in putting up with my pranks in class and outside the class. I would like to mention Mohseena Ma'am who was my class teacher in my Grade XI. She has been a source of motivation to me, has spent time talking to me and letting me share things with her not to forget the cups of coffee that she always offered me.
Every interaction in school whether it is with my friends, my juniors, my teachers has taught me something and I am truly going to miss my school. When I think of moving ahead in life I also realize that the skills I have developed and the confidence that I have gained  is thanks again to my school. I have been particularly motivated by my principal sir, Capt.Bajaj who has always been a friend to us, understanding our problems and giving us the liberty to share our thoughts with him. I remember the brief talk he had with us just a couple of days before our examinations. He spoke to us on prioritizing our time and inculcating self discipline to achieve our goals. I was so inspired by his talk that I walked out of the classroom resolving to get back to studies in right earnest and to a great extent I have succeeded in doing so. School is truly the place where one gets to learn everything that could possibly go to make a person self reliant to face the challenges of the outside world.

Book Donation

 

The little angels of Oakridge were all smiles, dressed up in white shirt and smart jeans. What was the occasion? These angels today were the Good Samaritans who wanted to help others.

The ‘Denim Dare’ at Oakridge, as it was called was organised for a wonderful cause. The condition was that if we get some donation to school we get to wear our favourite denim jeans to school.We all had decided to join our hands together to bring a smile on the faces of those who are underprivileged. This was a special donation drive in which we all collected books and stationery for the students who study in the schools run by the ‘Rural Development Foundation’ an NGO. RDF runs schools in rural AP. These schools are for the underprivileged rural children. The enthusiastic Oakridge's brought story books, notebooks and stationery articles all packed in eco-friendly bags and donated them for a good cause.

 

Night Camp Grade IV

Whistling winds, sun soaked grass, chirping birds…..hmm…..what a lovely day it was! Amidst a forest there we were..the students and teachers of Grade IV. What we were experiencing was a complete new feeling. It is very difficult to sit in a “concrete jungle” and imagine how beautiful nature is. The first day was full of activities. We did wall climbing, flying fox and team building exercises. After a very exciting afternoon we had a fun filled evening around the campfire. Before retiring for the day we gazed at the stars and had a close look at the moon through the telescope. What a way to end the Day!

We woke up at the call of our instructors at 6 a.m. We went trekking in the forest. It was a long walk in the bushes with wild surroundings and twittering of the birds playing music for entertainment. Post the trekking, we had a Snake Show. We were amazed to find out that there were so many varieties of snakes in India but only four species were venomous. We even got an opportunity to touch and hold the snakes, unquestionably the non venomous ones. Children were spellbound at the sight of snakes. The “Friends of the snakes” also demystified the myths surrounding snakes.

With so many memories to take back, we embarked on our journey to the “concrete jungle”. We had mixed emotions in our heart that day. We were happy to come back to our near and dear ones but at the same time we were extremely sad to leave our “new friends” behind.

 

Grade 3 - Open House Reflection

The open house was an excellent opportunity for all the parents to get an insight about what happens in a PYP classroom. It also made me realize the amount of hard work that goes behind the scenes to make the children learn so many skills. I appreciate and encourage this kind of approach which shows the transparency of the school in inviting parents to spend some time with their child in the classrooms. It strengthens the parent-child-teacher bond.

A PowerPoint Presentation Competition was organized by Delhi Public School, Secunderabad, on 19^th February, 2011 for Grade VIII students. Nitya, Ridhi Reddy and Poorvaja represented our school. Total 13 schools in and around the twin cities have participated in the competition.

Topics on which the students have to design a PowerPoint presentation were forwarded to our school before hand. Our students have chosen the topic “ANIMATIONS”. Pictures and graphics related to the topic were sent to DPS by our students . In the first session one hour of time was given to the students to design the PowerPoint presentation. During this one hour students need to design the slides, type the information and paste the pictures.

Snacks were given after the first session. Second session was the oral presentation of the PowerPoint by the students. Each school was given 7 minutes of time to present their PPT. A panel of judges posed questions based on the topic. Our school secured THIRD position. The contest came to an end with the Prize distribution ceremony. Trophies and Certificates were given to the WINNERS.

SPEAKING SKILLS-GUEST LECTURE

 

Mr.Srinivas, parent of Rishi Sai grade III A, volunteered to speak on “Presentation Skills’.

He spoke on the different aspects of presentation skills introduction, posture, eye contact, distraction, clarity, spacing between words and audibility.

He catered to the level of the children and made it a live and interactive session.

For the UOI - Imagination; we in grade 3 planned an activity where we integrated imagination with drama and visual arts. The activity required the students to make a mask, and then in groups they had to imagine and write a story using the masks as the characters and present it in the form of a skit.

Each group had a unique story; Characters in the stories were super heroes,Cops, King, Queen, animals, etc. Quickly roles were decided and dialogues were written.Then it was time for lights, camera, and action-The final performance.

It was very wonderful to see the children work in groups coordinating and cooperating with each other and then presenting and appreciating each others work.

Yes! It proved beyond doubt that imagination is the most powerful tool to enhance one’s creativity and learning.
