Week Of Special Learning Needs

Oakridge International School celebrated the week of special learning needs.A guest lecture was organized for children the guest speaker was Ms Manisha Gogte founder Dyslexic Association of Andhra Pradesh.

A seminar on critical issues in Inclusive Education was organized.The chief guest for the occasion was Mr.Mani Shankar, the acclaimed and multi talented film director, prolific writer and popular columnist. An award winning film ‘Anokhi Asha’ by Mr. Mani Shankar on Inclusive Education was screened which was liked by all.

The guest speakers for the seminar were Dr.Usha Naik, Professor of child psychiatry, Dr.Shakila Naidu, Clinical psychologist and Ms. Farida Raj, who spoke about the urgent need for Inclusive Education and integrate special needs students in regular Schools.

There was a special assembly conducted by student volunteers spreading awareness about SPECIAL LEARNING NEEDS.

An open forum was also organized for staff and parents wherein the teaching aspect of the supportive unit was showcased.

The counselling and supportive instruction unit would like to thank students of grade XI [Psychology] for volunteering and making the week a grand success.

Face painting competition

   

The amphitheatre came alive with lots of colour and life as we witnessed the inter house face painting competition where the student artists painted their models unleashing their hidden potential . The participation from all the four houses was overwhelming, as many as 120 students participated in this event making it a grand success. Instantly the students were metamorphosed into beautiful imaginary beings and animated faces.They came out with their artistic best and creative ideas.This event created an aura of excitement and festivity in the school campus. The students of Preprimary were on their healthy food campaign and were awestruck by the on-going activity.The sight took the breath away from the passers by for a moment when they saw a number of students over the steps of amphitheatre engaged in this wonderful activity.

The recipient of overall trophy for the first place was Rabindranath Tagore and 2^nd place was shared between Mother Teresa and Amartya Sen.

Designer Hunt 2011

The RAFFLES MILLENIUM INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DESIGN had organized a Designer Hunt 2011, an inter school competition to find the top designers of Hyderabad. The competition had a preliminary round where 15 schools were allowed to register 25 students from Grade XII.23 of us had registered to participate in the prelims on 29^th November. We left school with our College Advisor Anusha Maam accompanying us, with great enthusiasm to take part in the competition. As we reached the institute, we were thrilled with the beautiful campus, and were divided in 3 groups to have a tour of the campus lead by their faculty members. It was really very good to look around at their artistic work which was displayed all through the corridors and classrooms. After a little wait, it was finally competition time. We were taken into a huge room with only tables all around and material like newspaper,chart papers,glue,glitters etc.,for the competition. As one of the faculty gave a little introduction we were all geared up to start.Our first task was SCULPTURE MAKING. It was a great experience to think out of the box and come up with something creative, while the clock was ticking over our heads.After the competition got over,the judges were ready to take on.Each of us were supposed to explain what we have made and why did we make it.After a 15 minute break,we were ready for the second activity,which was HAND/FINGER PAINITING.The only material provided were a chart paper and paints,and we were use our fingers and hands only for painting the chart.With a 30 minute time limit all of us got totally engaged in trying to put our best on the paper.With some beautiful artistic paintings ,our second activity also came to an end.It was time to thank the Raffles group for a wonderful and enjoyable experience,which made us realize the creativity in ourselves.We would like to thank the school for all the support provided to us to attend the preliminary rounds,eagerly waiting for the results to know the finalists who would be competing with other schools on 17^th December.
