Breakthrough Training Consultants

In the words of John F Kennedy, ‘Leadership and learning and indispensible to each other’. Apart from being a leader, one needs to expand learning and develop the qualities that have been recognized. Robert Kennedy summed up leadership best when he said ‘others see things and wonder why: I see them as they are not and say why not’. And that makes a leader different from the rest!

The Prefect Council, volunteers and PAT students of Grade VI had the privilege of being a part of a leadership training program arranged at ‘Breakthrough’ in Bangalore on the 25^th and 26^th February 2012. Breakthrough Training Consultants are an out bound training company that develop high performing teams who buy into company vision, values and strategy. Our students had a two day leadership training program where they were exposed to activity based learning during which they engaged themselves in challenges that they never attempted before and through it, understanding and strengthening qualities within themselves.

 

We learnt about teamwork, importance of friends and respect. I developed the profile of caring and being a risk-taker. This definitely helped me become a better leader and improve my leadership’ – Nitya VI H

Many activities helped us build teamwork, be good listeners, understand the limits of yourself and others, how to be optimistic and not discourage others. ‘Bangalore, Breakthrough – two exciting words on my mind! Well, it was a very exciting trip. Be it fun, but it did teach us things through activity based learning. Pre-primary Student Led Conference

Student-led conference involves the student and the parent. The students are responsible for leading the conference, and also take responsibility for their learning by sharing the process with their parents.

Pre-primary students confidently led their parents into their classrooms to share the knowledge they have gained in the present academic year, in their much awaited event ‘Student Led Conference’ on 3 March’12.

They started the conference by introducing their parents to the teachers and vice-versa. Thereafter took them to various learning centers in the classroom where they explained their understanding in the various subject areas and also showcased it through their chosen activities. They named the profiles and attitudes , and also gave the same to their parents supporting it with an explanation.

The students presented their portfolio ,discussing and reflecting upon samples of work that they had previously chosen to share with their parents .

The SLC enabled parents to gain a clear insight into the kind of work their child is doing and offered an opportunity for them to discuss it with their child.

Ms.Shweta Malpani (m/o Krish Malpani, PP2E) – It was very exciting to have your child teach you things . I am happy that Krish is learning concepts through experiments, makes it easier to understand . Thank you.

Ms.Rama Tiberwala ( m/o Araddhya , PP2F)- It’s nice to see the little ones present their learning with so much enthusiasm ans confidence. Thankyou for all your hard work. We truly appreciate that.

Ms.Swathy (m/o Suryansh , PP2E )- It’s nice to see the work done by Suryansh.Felt like we were in classroom along with him. Thankyou for this.

Ms.Hema (m/o Vidya , PP2F )- Very good grasp of concepts, the portfolio is greatly organized, The profiles have been well explained. Speaker shows great confidence in the explanation. Great job Vidya and thanks to ma’ams!

Ms.Rizwana (m/o Aaqib, PP1E)– Aaqib loves his class and his teachers. He learns a lot at school. Even if he misses a day, I feel that he missed out.

Ms.Sridevi (m/o Samhita, PP1E) –Her ability to count and associate quantity with number is good. She needs to improve her English ability. She is also becoming more independent . Thanks for the training and grooming in the class.

Ms.Sonali (m/o Arya, PP2D)- We were very impressed with the portfolio and the progress Arya has made . It was a pleasure to see him so excited and confident while explaining all the activities and his portfolio. A big thankyou to the teachers.

Ms.Khanh (m/o Phong)- Very surprise to recognize how much Phong has done in the school. Excellent !

Ms.Jhansi – (m/o Vibhaas , PP1E) – Vibhaas has improved a lot . He is able to explain the things he has learnt. He is happy to explain each and every activity. Thankyou sooooo much Teachers. We are happy with your guidance.

Ms.Neelima and Raj( p/o Aditya , PP2C ) Great Job! Amazing to see how much the kids have learnt through the year . Really surprising to see Aditya about Venn Diagrams. He never ceased to surprise us with the amount of learning he has been doing .

Ms.Shalini Agarwal (m/o Dheer , PP2C) – It was great to see Dheer performing so many things and it was a very good experience . Good efforts by teachers to arrange everything so very well and help the child to build confidence in them.

Ms.Meghana Agarwal (m/o Rohan , PP1A ) – Excellent. Nice to see the difference in the children. They suddenly know so much. This reminds me why I have my kids in Oakridge. Thankyou Teachers.

Ms.Namrata Agarwal (m/o Diya , PP1A) – The conference is well organized , and well presented! Diya was very excited and shared a lot of her learning with us ! I was very happy to see that she feels extremely comfortable in the classroom and the school in general ! Thanks a lot Priya and Suma for making her happy and willing learner !

Ms.Parimita (m/o Anshika, PP1A )- It is very interesting . She is able to read sight words. I can’t believe. Thanks a lot. Cheers !

Ms.Mehar ( m/o Zaina , PP1C) – I am very happy with my child’s SLC. Fully satisfied and proud . All of you are doing great job !

Ms.Rashmi – (m/o Aagam ,PP2B) – I was surprised and impressed by Aagam’s performance. He was beyond my expectations. Well done ! and thankyou for making my child so prepared for class 1.

Ms.Muneera- (m/o Danish, PP1B) – Danish explained very nicely and did all the activities well which was a surprise for me . Good.

Dr. Sailaja – ( m/o Saatvik, PP2F) – We are very happy to see our son confidently explaining all the things to us. This was the day much awaited by all of us. Lot of credit goes to the teachers.Thankyou.

Ms.Silpa – (m/o Nidha , PP1D) – Very nice to hear from Nidha what they did and learned in the class during the whole year and I really thank and appreciate both the teachers for this. She improved a lot in expressing her ideas.

Ms.Maliha (m/o Raiyan, PP2B) – SLC was very impressive. Hats off to the teachers!! Raiyan’s line : “The food we eat undergoes different processes….” Surprised me ! He was able to explain each subject with ease and confidence !!

Field Trip to the Salar Jung Museum

The Salar Jung Museum is the biggest collection of antiques that one person has collected in the world. Though the majority of the artifacts are Eastern, it offers a lot of insight to any student of history. But then, the ninth grade IGCSE History class took a tour of the Western exhibits of the museum.

The first exhibit visited was the Founder’s Gallery, filled with portraits and relics that traced the past of the Salar Jung family. The room was filled with items that ranged from filigree perfume containers to rose water sprinklers, from a gold-rimmed cut glass wine-set from Czechoslovakia to English books from the time of the Nizams. The idea of objects belonging to times so long past was mind-blowing – and it was just the beginning.

The ‘Arms and Armory Gallery’ was a particularly fascinating room. Though the fact that it contained ancient backscratchers was a bit confusing, the scorpion-shaped brass knuckles, French ivory crossbows and palm-sized pistols were weapons sure enough to make up for it. Special serrated swords, used for stabbing and slicing out the enemy’s guts, were on display beside a full kilt of European armor and an array of javelins.

The ‘Painting gallery’ was a pleasant and a welcome change from the weaponry. Six types of paintings were displayed on the pale walls – animal, classical, domestic, historical, nature and romantic. Scenes from Greek tragedies came to life in their delicate gold frames, a copy of the Mona Lisa preened from its perch, but it was the double-sided statue that really stood out. The wooden model of the character Mephistopheles from the German drama Dr. Faust was only one side of the figure – his back, which could be viewed in the mirror, was the character Margaretta, from the same play.

The ‘Glass gallery’ was yet another glimpse of the glorious ancient art, filled with pitchers, vases and cups. The Venetian glass was delicate, while the Bohemian was gilded and then the Belgian had a crystal texture. The French gallery offered a wider array of pieces from France, with fancy desks, a pipe collection, angels preening around mirrors and intricately painted fans. The Egyptian gallery provided a glimpse at the articles collected from Egypt, but the greatest collection was that of the clocks.

The ‘Clock gallery’ was a hodgepodge of strange and magnificent timepieces. An umbrella clock sat next to a clown-faced clock, which was across the room from the figurine of a round man with a clock on his belly. Tiny bird figures peered out of their glass cages atop clocks and clocks loomed out of crystal balls. Enormous grandfather clocks were carved with bears and cupids, while a calendar clock displayed not only time, but also date and day of the week.

Our last exhibit was the ‘Rebecca gallery’. It displayed more statues than the Veiled Rebecca, but the Rebecca was the star of the show. The statue was carved out of marble, yet she seemed to be wearing a transparent veil.

There wasn’t nearly enough time to see all the exhibits of Salar Jung, but whatever we managed to see was truly marvelous.
