It was a fantabulous sight to see the busy dads playing the role of a teacher. Even the dads were thoroughly thrilled, excited and awestruck to meet the Oakridge inquirers. All of them were well prepared, very informative and interactive. Many had planned wonderful activities on the topic ‘Energy’.
I would like to thank all the dads of the fourth Graders, who came, participated and encouraged our enthusiastic students.

AIRTEL – MANCHESTER UNITED FOOTBALL COMPETITION

Telecom giant Airtel has tied up with famous European football club Manchester united to provide children in India an opportunity to train under Manchester
On 18th September, the preliminary round of selections took place at Red Hills football ground. Over 700 schools students from schools like HPS ramanthpur, Ivy league and so on participated. Local coaches were present and they chose around 80 players for round two of selections.
From OIS 7 students took part. They were Anurag, Vaibhav, Manoj, Ananth, Sridhar of grade 12 and Varun and Sachin of grades 10th & 9th respectively. All seven of them made it through to the next round.
The 2nd round of selections took place on 24th September at the Railways Sports ground. On this occasion, the participants were coached and tested by 3 Coaches from Manchester United. They put the 80 students through drills of controlling, dribbling and passing the ball. They short listed 20 students who were made to play a special football match. They then chose the final 4 students who would go to Manchester United based on each individual’s scores. From OIS Anurag Jain and Sachin Bharati were selected to go Manchester , UK
These selections were held in 5 cities – Hyderabad , Delhi India

Dear Parent,
A warm hello from Oakridge!
It has been close to ten years (in 2001) since we introduced Hyderabad to international education. While on one side the journey has been challenging so far, it has also been more than rewarding. When we started off, the objective was to give the city a smarter generation of children, every single year. We’ve succeeded in doing that, as today Oakridgers are going everywhere, finding their place in top institutes like the Stanford University, London School of Economics, Queen Mary College (London) and Georgia School of Technology.
Back then, we started with the Gachibowli campus with a few hundred students, and today it’s a learning center to over 2500 children. This growth clearly acknowledges the changing demands, and that Hyderabad’s children need a school that can prepare them to compete globally. While this growth is good, it also represents the growing aspirations of more and more parents. For us, this necesassitated the setting up of another Oakridge campus. The one at Bachupally, in 2009.
The starting of the Bachupally campus meant the need for education that can become the bridge to global opportunities – be it universities, sports or art. We are glad to be able to meet these demands and expectations of parents, who trust us to nurture their child into someone who can stand up and hold their head high anywhere.
But then again, growth has taken a new meaning at Oakridge. It has led us to look back at people whose contributions have tranformed the world completely. Without which, the world couldn’t have made the progress it has. We take inspiration from Sir Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein, two of the world’s greatest genuises, as we proudly announce the renaming of the two Oakridge campuses in their honour.
From now on, Oakridge International School, Gachibowli becomes Oakridge International School, Newton Campus and Oakridge International School, Bachupally becomes Oakridge International School, Einstein Campus. We see this change as something that will inspire our children to do something world-changing, and be remembered forever, just like the icons their schools will be referred to as, from now on.

On November 23rd, 2010, OIS hosted one of many periodic college sessions geared towards notifying the 11th & 12th grade students of college options available to them both in India and abroad. On this particular day, a university with a strong history with Oakridge obliged us with a sterling presentation about their students, faculty, and resources. This college was University of British Columbia, UBC for short, located in Canada. UBC and OIS go way back, this year representing the 3rd annual autumn visit by UBC to Oakridge on their Asian tour. Four Oakridge alumni currently reside & study at UBC.
UBC consistently capture a ranking in the top 30 (1%) universities in the world, with 99% of the professors being PhD holders, a solid academic focus outlines the UBC vision. The beautiful Canadian scenery provides an abode of snow-covered mountains, sun-kissed beaches, and avenues to hiking. Vancouver has been crowned for several years as the “#1 city to live in” on the entire globe, an important fact considering 50,000 students are currently enrolled at UBC.
As someone who attended the session both in 2009 and 2010, I’m proud to say the proceedings were as informative and interesting as ever. The UBC slogan “Connections for Life” offers a portal of communication for prospective students through the official admissions website, www.connectionsforlife.ubc.ca. The website contains tips to understanding the application process, live student blogs for reading, and videos to reflect the ambience of UBC. Just as Oakridge provides a diverse range of curricula, UBC’s collegiate structure follows a pattern of field-oriented programs and interdisciplinary studies. Spread out over the 2 campuses in Vancouver and Okanaga, schools in UBc include: Architecture, Arts & Fine Arts, Business & Management, Engineering, Health & Human Kinetics, and Science.
Oakridge students enjoyed the guest lecture enormously, understanding in an in-depth manner one of the foreign universities, which many are the right place for some of our students. We thank UBC for taking the time and effort to speak at our school, guiding us a little bit closer to learning the treasure within.

Mr. Jeff Kiyooka-Associate Recruiter / Advisor, International Student Recruitment from The University of British Columbia, Canada visited the school today to give an overview of the university, their academic programs, tuition fees etc. They also gave a review on the admission requirements, the application process and more. It started with a presentation by the representative followed by a doubt clarifying session, which was attended by all the Grade XI and XII students of IBDP and CBSE.
The students got to know information about the university, their admission criteria, scholarships offered by the university and the general requirements. The representative also spoke about the Canada Education System.

Last Saturday that was on Nov.20 we all junior school teachers got a surprise by our Head mistress.
She had arranged for an athletic event for us. All the teachers participated in the games (running, jumping, skipping, passing through the hole-a-loop etc).
I was amazed by the participation of teachers. I was awestruck to see great runners like P.T Usha and jumping kangaroos around.
They all were awesome and sportive.
It was great and we all had a wonderful time.

Understanding Adolescence Session -- Student Feedback

Today we had a presentation about the changes and developments in our body during the adolescent stage of our lives. We learned that there are organs of the reproductive system present in our bodies in the abdomen area. These organs differ in a girl and boy. We learned that there are changes which happen after 10 yrs for the girls and 12yrs for the boys.
We were given this presentation to create awareness about the reproductive system present in us and to warn us about the consequences that we might face if we use our bodies in a wrong and irresponsible way.

As a part of the Emotional Well-Being Week, the students of Gr 7 attended an interactive session on Understanding Adolescence conducted by Dr T. Himabindu Singh. These sessions were conducted over a period of two days (Nov 22,23) in small group segments.
Growing up is both and exciting and confusing concept. Children go through an upheaval during this transition stage between childhood to adulthood; experiencing multiple changes within -physical, mental, social and emotional. Understanding the changes, preparedness to face these changes, accept them and eventually become comfortable with one’s own body was the thrust of the session.
The session covered the physical changes for both sexes along with the challenges that accompany growth.Risks that young people are exposed to, including abuse and substance abuse was also touched on to create awareness among the students. Questions and doubts that students raised were also answered during this 90-120 minute session.

Since it’s inception , Oakridge International School has had the unique distinction of starting the first resource room for students with learning and behavior difficulties in Hyderabad. The “Child psychology & Supportive Instruction Unit “ has been headed by a highly qualified and experienced clinical psychologist with a team of committed remedial instructors who have been actively involved in initiating innovative programs such as the following:
A) Remedial Instruction program (Resource room model) for children with learning problems in reading, writing, spelling and Mathematics in S.I unit

C) Individual Counseling program for students referred with emotional / behavior difficulties and their families.

AlMUN Conference held in Noida during 19th -21st NOV 2010
AlMUN conference held in Noida during 19th -21st NOV 2010 was well organized. Advisors of each school were introduced to the Chairperson Dr. Amita Chauhan. It was great pleasure for me to observe our 10 student’s performance during AIMUN 2010 (19th -21st NOV)in various committee’s like ECOSCO, UNESCO,Crisis committee,General Assembly were 500 national and international students came together to draft a charter of a new world body, gain a greater understanding of the UN and diplomacy,gain an insight into public relations/international business/politics.This great exposure would be allowing them to gain valuable research making skills,public speaking and decision making skills.
Observations during the three day AIMUN conference:
· Bringing together 500 students from across the globe in one place trying to achieve a common motive-a better understanding and a better world.This has been made clear in their slogan of the AIMUN “BE THE CHANGE, SEE THE CHANGE”.
· AIMUN conference provided every one a wounderful opportunity to interact with the people from all cross the world and make formal as well as informal connections.
· AIMUN conference encouraged and prepared the young diplomats of today who are the stake holders of tomorrow, to be informed and sensitized global citizens.
· The main aim of MUN is to encourage, understand and promote the ideas of peace, respect for human rights and freedom and solidarity.
· Through the number of informative, knowledgeable and exciting activities during the three day conference our students (delegates) truly exhibited their talents, to groom themselves a better mankind.
· The best learning part was to make the young generation understand not only students coming together as delegates of various nations to discuss issuesof international concern and they must konw is that,if we , as individuals are ignorant about any urgent issues , then we are unlikely to make an effort to help , ever. Therefore, awarness comes first, then the action, one of the biggest challenges faced by the students is not what they do at this conference but what are they going to do with the experience of the conference? I.e we have to be united in our pain, our sorrow and our fear, our hope, our passion and our fraternity.
Attending the three day conference for me was amazing and bought me an very good insight and understanding the purpose of it .

A day full of positive activities all over the school.We had a session on childhood obesity a growing concern for all by Dr.Nanda Kishore bariatric surgeon from Apollo, endocrinology and its concerns – Dr.Santosh –Endocrinologist Apollo Hospitals.Dr.Himabindu Singh associate professor, Nilofer hospital took a session on understanding adolescence.Our junior school had a session on bullying by jr.school student advisor Ms.Stuti.Hopefully our effort to have physically and emotionally fit Oakridgers should be fulfilled.
