TRIBAL MUSEUM

The students of Grade V went on a field trip to the Tribal Museum on 11 &12  of July in connection with the UOI “Self Identity”.

This museum, run by the government’s Tribal Welfare Department, exhibits photographs, dioramas of village life, musical instruments and some exquisite Naikpod masks. You’ll get a glimpse into the cultures of these fringe peoples.

The Nehru Centenary Tribal Museum has been established and inaugurated on February 2003.

The Museum is named after Late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister keeping in view of his rich contribution towards basic policy approach for Tribal Development and universally acclaimed principles commonly known as Nehru's Panchsheel for Tribal Development.

The following themes are depicted in the Museum:-
1. Typical tribal huts.
2. Weekly market.
3. Musical instruments.
4. Hunting and fishing equipments.
5. Agriculture implements.
6. Tribal panchayat.
7. Important shrines of tribals.
8. Household articles.
9. Ornaments.
10. Masks.

A mini auditorium is also provided in the premises to show video films on various aspects of tribal life and culture to the visitors.

The panorama of tribal culture which adds color to the national heritage is unique in its nature. The social organization and recreation of these simpler folk societies scattered in the hills and forests present a whole gamut of human behaviour.

The students were enthusiastic and it was a good learning experience for them.

BUSY IN RESEARCH

Learners brainstorming on the Central idea.

Dough Nut Activity: - To understand peers and their cultures.

Learners getting energized: To refresh themselves.

Learners busy in doing in depth inquiry.

Learners preparing for presentation of their learning.

Bus stop Activity: To learn more and appreciate their peers.

Learners went through the above mentioned stages in their POI class to gain knowledge on the theme “How do we express ourselves”. Activity based learning, enabled learners to participate with great enthusiasm, gave them a chance to share information and gain in depth knowledge. It also improved their research skills.

DEAR DAY CELERATIONS

Students of class-VD participated with great enthusiasm, to conduct morning assembly on DEAR DAY.
This opportunity gave our students to present their skills of dramatics.

Students composed their own script for their show, selected their own roles and tried their best to convey the message of “DEAR DAY – Drop Every thing And Read”.

They extended these celebrations into class rooms and to their home too.

These were great moments for my children.

Spoorthi - A new kind of joy

You learn when you give. Spoorthi has been the most wonderful learning experience for all the participants. Watching the children come into our school with beaming faces and sitting in our classrooms with wide eyes has been an inspiration for all of us who have taught them. The Spoorthi children have always been eager to soak up new ways of thinking and become more aware of the world around them. Spending time with them over the year has given them a special place in all our hearts. When their eyes light up after they’ve understood something, be it in science, basketball or even health class, the volunteers are filled with pride.

On the 14th of July, students of 11th and 12th grade volunteered to be a part of the Spoorthi family. While some taught them Math and English, others introduced them to the worlds of Art, Dance and Physical Education. The air was filled with a purpose and that purpose was to teach and learn. While grammar was taught in the classrooms, the water cycle was taught next to a puddle out on the field. The children were very energetic and their enthusiasm was contagious. Most of the volunteers agreed that they experienced a kind of joy they had never felt before. This Spoorthi session was one more among many on the road to developing creative and globally aware students.

CADENCE INDEED!!

It was a rocking evening indeed. The mood was vibrant and surreal at the Cadence drum fest -  a one of its kind concert in AP.

Akhil Gudapati of grade 6 F was one of the participants in this unique festival of beats. He is a grade 4 student of drums at Trinity College of London where he takes his grade certifications. About 35 drummers preformed during this drum fest. The audience was spell bound and was engrossed for over two hours with the lively and peppy beats of the drummers.Their nimble hands worked magic and made many tap their feet. This event took place on 7th of July 2012 at Hari Hara Kala Bhavan.

Dear D.E.A.R Day,

We had a great time with the books today. Thanks to you because this is the day when we dropped all our activities and devoted ourselves to the world of reading.

The biggest comfort of these moments was the language in which we read and listened to different stories. And the comfort was our very mother tongue with which we celebrated you and reading.

We would like to extend our thanks to the parent volunteers who entertained us and kept the enthusiasm in great spirits. We will take this learning home and make sure that we meet you again at 9 pm with our whole family.

This is just a beginning.

With regards,
Oakridgers

DEAR DAY (DROP EVERYTHING AND READ)

Reading can be considered as a tool to sharpen intelligence of an individual.  It helps in improving concentration.
Unfortunately this digital age has become overbearing on an individual’s reading time.  To trap the reading interest and to light a spark with the beauty of reading Oakridge International School set its learning time aside on this “DEAR DAY”.

To enhance and enrich the beauty of ‘Mother tongue’ with the help of our parents we spend our dear day differently.  Parents read out stories to children in their respective “Mother tongue”
