KNOW YOUR MUSICIAN SERIES 1

February 1
Mamlok was born as Ursula Meyer in Berlin, Germany and studied piano and composition with Professor Gustav Ernest and Emily Weissgerber until her family fled Nazi Germany following the nationwide pogrom in 1938. Due to American immigration quotas, the family moved to Guayaquil, Ecuador for a short time, finally immigrating to New York City in 1941. Mamlok became an American citizen in 1945.
In New York Mamlok continued her musical studies under the direction of George Szell at the Mannes School of Music, where she studied for four years. She then received a bachelor's and master's degree at the Manhattan School of Music, studying with Vittorio Gianni. Other teachers include Roger Sessions and Ralph Shapey in composition and Eduard Steuermann, one of the foremost piano pedagogues at the time, in performance.

Responsible young Oakridgers

Clean up is an important part of our pre primary program, as it teaches self-reliance, care of the environment, responsibility, sorting, and a host of other skills. A great system as far as teaching the students to take responsibility for themselves. As a part of the CAS, Our tiny tots helped in basic room cleaning all by themselves by picking up garbage in play area , wiping the tables cleaning up the classroom, tidying up their  cubby holes, even arranging the chairs and tables. The principle behind this lesson, that one must take responsibility of their actions.
The Pre Primary Children not only actively participated in the activity but also gave suggestions on the same. Suggestions included Keeping the class library cleans, arranging the beads and blocks on a daily basis and also taking care of the resources in the class.

Oakridge Leadership Programme – A Presentation

“Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and in actions”…this probably reflects the essence of leadership. It is now recognized as a discipline that needs to be taught. In today’s world of globalization, the concept of leadership is inclusive of a host of life skills to equip the younger generation to the challenges of a modern society.
A new initiative in this direction by the school is the Oakridge Leadership Program that has been initiated to train students in leadership skills and enlighten them to move from thought to action, from success to significance.
A presentation on the program was held in the campus on 29 January by Mr. Amir Bhatia Founder & CEO Aspire Group who spoke to students on the importance of learning leadership in ways that they have never learned before. Mr. Bhatia spoke about the Leadership camp which will be scheduled at Rishikesh and said the idea was to bring the children out of their comfort zone and expose them to a fun learning experience that will cover adventure sports, community visits, communication and soft skills and leadership case studies to name a few.
Speaking on the occasion the Principal Capt. RohitSen Bajaj called upon the students to feel motivated and inspired to take on the program. Capt. Bajajalso added that the students will get an opportunity to hear and interact with people whoare influential in their intellect.
This experiential learning experience I am sure will go a long way in building confident individuals and sensitize them to the issues around them so that they take action in the right direction to make a DIFFERENCE not only to their personalities but the society at large.

Pre primary Assembly

Every Friday is the most awaited day of the week for the teachers and children of Pre- Primary. Finally the day arrived when it was the turn of PP2F to perform on the stage. With all our faith we started the assembly with a Prayer. “Happiness Brings Success” was the thought we shared with our friends. The role play done by the children was highly appreciated. They ended the assembly with a tongue twisting rhyme.
