As part of CAS initiative and also in accordance with CBSE guidelines on an “Education campaign to preserve and protect heritage monuments in the country”, we, the students of 10C were very excited to do our bit of service to the community.
The boys and girls broke off into two groups each, one for cleaning the books and shelves and one for arranging the books on the shelves. The boys were taken to the Hindi section of the library and the girls were taken to the Urdu section.
In addition to the great pride we felt in giving back to the community, we also bonded better with our own classmates and worked very well together, in unity. Our class teacher too was very enthusiastic and actively took part in the cleaning. We formed chains around the huge book racks in the library, passing down bundles of books to be arranged neatly in order. Nobody slacked or held back in working and even the students with dust allergies participated in the activities.
We were told that we had cleaned and arranged approximately one lakh five thousand books. We also learnt moral values from this experience, mainly teamwork, trust and tolerance. By 1:15 pm, we were pretty tired and dusty but none of us minded much. We thank the school for organizing this trip to the State Central library and we are sure that we wouldn’t hesitate to return if help was needed.
