CAS visit by Grade XE and F

On the 8th of August, Grades X E and F of Oakridge International School visited the Little Sisters Home for the Aged in New Bhoiguda. This old age home was catholic and had breathtaking statues of Jesus and the Holy Mother Mary set in the midst of beautiful patches of plants and trees.
On entering the home, we were all shown to the office, where we dropped off all the goods we brought with us to give to the aged; Pickles, biscuits, fruits etc. with a volunteer nun.
We then split up into two groups so we would be able to meet and talk to everyone there. The girls first visited the women’s residential section. Here, we saw the inner workings of the linen room and the organization of the lunch hall. We talked to some of the women resident, explored their garden and also saw a milky white cat that apparently spent time with the old ladies.
We then went through the building complex over to the men’s residential section. On our arrival there, we were ushered by our classmates who were already there over to man who told prophecies. At first, we were a bit apprehensive. But undeniably, only by our telling him our birthday, he correctly interpreted our personality and told us our most suitable career path. All this only from only the date of which we were born!
When we went to the men’s common room, we saw a framed picture of a wooden house. Further inquiry revealed that it was actually a house made out of matchsticks! We then met a man who talked about his childhood and his career with great joy and enthusiasm. We listened to all the stories he told of him helping classmates cheat in Physics tests and laughed with him at the jokes he told
We met Aarogyam, a man who made handmade mats with pieces of cloth. There were indeed many a number of talented people in the home for the aged who left us awestruck and inspired.

We sat in the adjoined church and read the Bible extracts put up on the walls. We laughed, talked and cried with all the beautiful people who lived there and I couldn’t help but feel touched by how kindly they treated us; like we were their own grandkids, like we were family.
We said our goodbyes and boarded the buses with full hearts alone with a feeling of respect and love for our own grandparents and parents that we weren’t aware we had in us before.
