"Desa Bhasha Landu Telugu Lessa"

These are the words penned by the Famous ruler Sri Krishnadevaraya which means “of all languages Telugu is the best”.

Telugu has been recognized by the Government of India as a classical language.

Andhra Pradesh state has been formed on 1st of November, and on this occasion we celebrate November 1st as the Andhra Pradesh state formation day.

The celebrations of prized community traditions strengthen bonds within the school community.

To commemorate the 56^th AP Formation Day, the Telugu faculty of the Newton Campus organized in Telugu Essay Writing Competition and Telugu Recitation Competition for the students on 31^st Oct 2011.

On this occasion the students of Grades VII, VII & IX participated with great zeal and enthusiasm

As a part of the celebration a special assembly was organized by the staff and students to mark this special event in the school on 1^st November 2011.

The assembly began with a prayer to invoke the Blessings of the Lord Almighty followed by a melodious Telugu song by the school choir. The girls were dressed in beautiful traditional colourful costumes which gave a lovely festive look to the atmosphere. The boys accompanied the choir on Tabla, Keyboard and Guitar.

Alkekhya of grade 8 A highlighted the importance of this day in her speech.

Our Principal Captain Rohit Sen Bajaj in his address appreciated the efforts of the faculty as a source inspiration to the students for organizing this event.

He appreciated the rich traditional culture and cuisine of Andhra Pradesh. He also shared with us his experiences and interactions with Non Resident Indians from Andhra Pradesh on his trips abroad. He also emphasized on the importance of preserving our culture and to be proud of our rich heritage The Principal awarded the winners of the Telugu Essay Writing and Recitation competition with prizes & certificates during the assembly.

The celebrations continued throughout the day. The Vice Principal Ms Jyothi Turaga on this occasion presented the students of Grade VII & VIII Shataka books as gifts.

Posters of important Telugu writers, poets and social workers from 11^th Century till today were displayed on the walls of the Atrium along with Telugu literature and grammar charts. There was also a spread of Andhra Delicacies.

The students look forward to such occasions as it gives them a break from the daily routine as well as motivates the students to create positive memories and develop a bonding to their culture.

No matter how packed the academic schedules are, these highly anticipated traditions are can’t-miss events in our school.

A DAY OF BONDING

29^th October 2011 was a very special day for the all students and teachers of grade 3. In connection with our CAS (creativity, Action, Service) activities the children from KUTUMBAM, an initiative of Aparna Novel Society for Welfare and Research (ANSWER) spend the day with us in our class. They were heartily welcomed by the Head Mistress and the Coordinator. The children conducted a special assembly by presenting the slokas and singing the National Anthem.

There were twenty children from KUTUMBAM who were proportionately divided in the eight sections with our children of OIS. Our children had a great time interacting and sharing their experiences. All the children were equally involved in the learning activities in every section of grade 3. The IBDP students of grade 11 were also our active participants helping the teachers in the classroom activities. It was indeed a splendid day!

You become what you believe you are!

     

' You become what you believe you are' was the message inherent in the story narrated by the Principal, Capt.Bajaj in the Monday morning assembly. The story goes like this : an eagle's egg is hatched in a chicken farm. The eagle is raised to be a chicken and it believes it is nothing more than a chicken. Each time it wishes to fly it is told by the other chickens that it cannot. The eagle continues to live the life of a chicken till its end.

Capt.Bajaj spoke on the necessity for children to understand themselves to help them discern what is right or wrong. Leadership he said is about 'influence' and it is important that one associates with people who inspire and guide us in the right direction. Students are impressionable and prone to external pressures from their peers and also the digital media. It is for the students to prioritise and make the right choices in life.

Capt.Bajaj also spoke on the F1 Grand Prix that India is hosting. It is a proud moment for us he said and a matter of honour and privilege.

India also witnessed the birth of the 7 billionth baby on the 31 of October.Demographic projections show that by 2030 India will be the most populous nation crossing China.It is important that students keep themselves informed of what is happening around them not just as a matter of information but to reflect and act on doing something meaningful to make a positive contribution to society.

I am sure these little interactions during the Assemblies help the student community a lot in developing a positive attitude that affirms the school's vision and their own aspirations.

HALLOWEEN DAY

          

“Woooo went the wind and OUT went the light and the little pumpkins rolled out of site”.

Halloween Day was celebrated by Pre-Primary on 31 October’11 in school. Children came dressed in various Halloween costumes and interesting masks . It was a thrilling moment for everyone to watch our Halloween Parade and see children trying to scare each other. The other activities included trick or treating, story telling and singing songs. Wow! What a day to remember.
