 The 1st match in the TAISI Basketball tournament, Senior category was played between Oakridge, Newton Campus and Victoria Kids.

It was a grand success for Oakridge.

The score was 60-11. 

Vote for My Future

An Oakridge Initiative

                                                                ...to mobilize people to vote 

It’s time to act now…

On Monday, 18 November, this program was introduced in the morning assembly by our Principal Captain Rohit Sen Bajaj. He said “It's time for the students to take the “first” step towards the changes that they always wanted for their country” and encouraged the students to participate. He further elaborated that it is not the time for the students to vote but they are a powerful force who can influence people to vote and choose the right leader.

This initiative will involve each and every student wherein each student inspires 10 citizens of India to vote. The student will have to get A PLEDGE signed by 5 citizens who already have voter ID to vote and A PLEDGE from 5 citizens who do not have voter IDs to get their voter IDs and vote.

Oakridge has initiated this public awareness drive in collaboration with an organization Let’s Vote to instil in the citizens of India the value and importance of voting.

It will be done as an activity by the students in their family and neighbourhood to encourage the people to vote. For this activity the students will be rewarded with:

·        Points for Oakchamp

·        CAS hours

·        FA 4 Social studies assignment for CBSE grades 7 to 10

On Thursday, 28 November, the students took the following pledge led by our Vice Principal Mr. Biju in the morning assembly:

We the students of Oakridge International School will inspire at least 5 citizens to vote and encourage at least 5 citizens of India to make their voter IDs & vote to help secure a better future for India.

TAISI Basketball Junior Boys — Match 1

The first match was played between Victoria Kids and Oakridge Newton Campus. Both the teams really played well.

Oakridge won the match by 75-5.

Oakridge Newton is the 2nd Runner-up in TAISI Sub Junior Soccer Tournament!

Oakridge Newton Campus played extremely well and won the 3^rd place (2nd runner-up position) in the TAISI sub junior soccer league tournament.

The team made the Oakridge community proud.

TAISI Soccer Match 4

The 4th match was played between Choithram International School (Indore) and Oakridge International School, Newton Campus.

Oakridge won the match by 5-0.

TAISI Sub Junior Soccer Match 3

The 3rd match was played between MIT Pune and Oakridge Newton campus.

The score: 

Oakridge - 7, MIT Pune – 0. 

Oakridge Newton had an amazing win.

TAISI - Match 2

The 2nd match at TAISI was played between Oakridge Newton Campus and Bengaluru International School. The match was interesting and the audience really enjoyed watching it. 

The score was 1-0.

1st Match at TAISI Tournament

TAISI tournament was held in Pune from 21st to 24th November. The 1^st sub junior soccer match was played between Oakridge Newton and Vishwashanti Gurukul, Pune. 

The score was 2-2.

One Nation Reading Together — 29th November

Books can become our best friend and enrich us with knowledge and pleasure. Our vocabulary increases as we glean the meaning of new words. Spellings improve with added familiarity with the written word. We at Oakridge continuously encourage the children to read, read and read.

With the primary objective of honing learners’ reading skills, Scholastic India held a ‘One Nation Reading Together’ programme. We, the junior school, will be proudly participating in this event. We have nominated and received the pledge written by a famous multitalented poet Gulzar.

 One Nation Reading Together is an annual event initiated by Scholastic India, where children in schools across the country will spend 30 minutes on Friday, 29^th November 2013 reading for fun, and doing other activities that celebrate reading as a pleasurable and enriching experience.

Beautiful Pages Instantly — Smore

The days of posting a flyer around the neighbourhood are over. Smore helps us to create amazing pages that we’d be proud to share.

Grade 3 students designed a flyer to target specific audiences. They chose either to design for an event or for any social issue to convey a message. Smore, an online tool which allows to add text, upload images and audio made the children complete the task with enthusiasm. This brought excitement among the kids and we got to see their innovative qualities. They brought an amazing piece of work to the table and this was a huge success. People loved their work in school and it was also appreciated by the parents group.

Student Reflections on Academic Honesty

 Know What is Academic Honesty

Today we had an activity on Academic Honesty. It was interesting while we learned new things on the school and its functions. Academic Honesty is being honest and all about the credit you give to others because they help you. We also learned about Academic Dishonesty and the way it is different from Academic Honesty. 

Our teacher Ms Kavita gave us a few examples on both the subjects. After a while, we had an interesting open discussion on the topic and recognized a few sentences whether they are Academic Honesty or Academic Dishonesty. This class was really nice and informative. We were happy with our understanding. It was quite fun.

Real Work: When There is Academic Honesty

On Wednesday when I had computers, I got to know a lot about Academic Honesty and Dishonesty and how to prevent it. Kavita Ma’am asked us how we would feel if somebody pretended your work to be theirs. Many students said that they would feel sad, angry, upset and many such negative feelings. This shows that committing Academic Dishonesty or Plagiarism is not the right thing to do, as it hurts the feelings of the person who has put in a lot of good effort.

We also learnt that there are many ways of committing plagiarism like copying the information from the Internet and not mentioning the site, taking help from somebody and not giving them the due credit, etc.

I hope that people give the credit whenever needed and not commit plagiarism, at least I won’t and I encourage others also to do the same.

Visual Arts: Little Hands, Little Creators

Students of PP1 applied their understanding of lines and shapes to draw various things of their choice like ice-cream, house etc., and used their colouring skills to present their artwork creatively.

Integrating with their Unit on community helpers, students created chef caps using old newspapers.
