Should cell phones be allowed in school?
The question that has many answers and attracts loads of controversy. On the 28th of July, 2011, a nervous group of students debated on this topic and hopefully reach a conclusion. There were many strong points put forward, judged by Ms. Anusha and Ms. Sulochana our career counsellor and librarian respectively.
The debates started with class 9A and each section presented their views. Students who wanted to carry cell phones to school put forward points such as being able to communicate with parents during emergency, using applications for calculators and dictionaries. Becoming more organized with the help of reminders and calendars.
Students against mobile phones opposed, saying they cause indiscipline, cyber bullying, cheating and could be misused in many ways. The moderators summed it up in a very diplomatic manner, some reaching a conclusion and some leaving it to us to decide.
In the end, the audience learned a lot and the speakers became more confident and the speakers became more confident and lost their stage fright as everything went smoothly and nobody messed up.
We definitely look forward to next week’s debate.
