In connection to our unit of inquiry “Transportation systems directly impact the need of a community”, the 3rd of September 2011 was a much awaited day for our grade 2 learners.
We believe in experiential learning and therefore constantly innovate our learning methods. One of such exemplar of our innovations is the MMTS RIDE!!
Initially we felt it is a humongous task to get 220 learners and their parents to be a part of this trip. However, to our pleasant surprise learners themselves have shown immense enthusiasm when we started discussing the same in the classrooms.
Our learners have taken the onus of convincing their parents to accompany them on this ride and parents have also shown great interest to be a part of their ward’s learning.
Finally the day arrived!! It was a pleasant day and we had an overwhelming response of approx 70% students joining us on this trip. The learners had hands on experience of buying the tickets to various destinations. They were inquisitive observers through out.
The learners have learned -
· The process of booking tickets.
· To understand the Train Information Boards.
· The precautionary measures to be practiced while boarding the train.
· To identify different stations on their way to the destination.
· To connect with the importance of public transport and its effect on the environment.
Finally the trip was a grand success with the support of all our enthusiastic parents.

A great learning experience, our trip on the MMTS on 3rd September was a resounding success. A large Oakridge family comprising children, teachers, parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, siblings from PP’s till Grade 4 were a part of Grade 2’s trip. It seemed like a picnic for the Oakridge family where nearly 130 parents came together at various stations to take their kids on a short trip on the Hyderabad local, the MMTS.
The bouncy 7 year olds smartly dressed in school uniforms on a Saturday morning brought along with them loads of inquisitiveness & spread harmony among this huge group. They were beaming with joy waiting at the platform singing songs ‘hum honge kamyab’ and more. Children took this short trip along with the daily commuters observing, learning, inquiring while experiencing how transportation systems fulfill the needs of the community.
Teachers are ready with reflection tasks and kids will be taken further in their learning’s through a sharing session.
All Aboard!! Chuk, chuk, chuk, chuk…
