Career Awareness presentation by UNIVARIETY

Dear Parents,

At Oakridge, we recognise the importance of investing in our children. We endeavour to provide high quality education in a supportive environment and aim to equip our students with the tools necessary to succeed in the world.

We recognise that very soon your child will be completing his/her school and probably is already
evaluating higher studies options. For a number students & parents this evaluation process can be very confusing & strenuous. The confusion is justified on account of complicated admission processes, highly competitive entrance tests with sky-rocketing cut-offs and lack of clarity on which courses to pursue based on interests and strengths of the student.

Over the last couple of years, a large number of students and parents have approached us,requesting the school to assist in navigating through this complex process of college planning. Continuing our tradition of putting the interests of the students first, we now have tied up with ‘Univariety’!
Univariety specialises in the field of university access and higher education counselling. It is a part of the Singapore based ‘International Education Gateway’ and also has operations in UK and India. Over the last 10+ years, the team of counsellors at Univariety has assisted a large number of students in making higher education choices. They have helped students in successfully applying to colleges and universities within and outside India. Some of you had attended a presentation made by Univariety a few weeks earlier at our school. The response to that presentation was very positive.

The Univariety program will be delivered through a combination of workshops conducted in the school
(you will be requested to participate in some of these workshops) and supported with online systems for the entire university access process.

The first workshop for students and parents of class 11thwill be held on: 04thFebruary,2012.PresentationTime:10:00 am – 12:30 pm.

This will be the first workshop covering the Univariety services and providing overall guidelines around the higher education process.
By providing this essential service, we hope to help our students in taking the correct first step on the journey to realise their true potential. Your presence will ensure that your child can reap the maximum benefit from this effort.

Yours Sincerely
Principal – Oakridge International School

The issue selected by this group for inquiry is pollution. The students feel it is a burning issue, which if not controlled can cause a lot of havoc. The earth is already over burdened with the ever increasing population and add to it the fact that the humans seem to be bent upon wasting precious resources. The students are inquiring into the causes and effects of pollution and then think of innovative ways to combat the problem. As a part of this, they brought seeds and saplings to school and planted them in an empty piece of land in the school.

Bringing people across the Globe into our learning community...

Grade 2 learners showed immense curiosity to know how the world works in connection with their unit of Inquiry - “Changes in the earth’s natural cycle affect our activities”. The parent community provided a lot of support in arranging for Skype and telephonic calls from different parts of the world. Learners connected with people from Portland, California, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Washington, Kashmir, Delhi and Singapore. The students learned to compare the weather of these countries with those in Indian states and also relate it to the global climatic changes in recent times through this activity.
