We are here towards the end of Grade two when children are getting geared up and are taking measures to do something from their learning. For the unit “Water” kids had a guest lecture by Dr. Arvind on Rain Water Harvesting. Children for the first time came to know about collecting the rain water and saving it for lateral use. The process is simple and requires only one time investment for the pipes. After listening to the lecture kids were so captivated that they decided to write letter to the school Bursar as we believe action should be taken from the school first as this is where the learning blossoms. They also wrote letters to the moms, farmers and people of Cheerapungi. Look at the pictures shown below.
The children took the letter to our school management department. Seeing the kids’ motivation our Bursar and Head Mistress were so impressed that they are going to have the rain water harvesting system in the school by the next academic year 2011-2012. Well that’s what PYP is about taking action from the knowledge gained. It’s not learning inside the four walls of classroom but spreading it to the society and bringing awareness among the people.
