Multiplication tables are a fundamental building block of mathematics. To help children master multiplication tables we initiated “TOP OF THE TABLES” a program that provides a variety of activities to facilitate remediation, practice & extension of basic times tables facts.
After pre-assessing the readiness of learners in the 3rd term we initiated this program. It challenges the students to solve a certain number of problems on mental calculations in an allotted time span.
These activities have not only helped students to develop speed of recall but also enhanced concentration skills for a more focused learning and confidence at an early age. Students have enjoyed the self- competition aspect of this periodical activity.
We analyzed the progress of our students using a doughnut chart which shows the % of students that scored between 75%-85% during their 1st assessment (blue) to their progress in the 6th assessment (red).
Teacher’s motivational rewards are a tremendous learning tool that is making the children out-perform themselves time and again. We have a good % of “Times tables Terminators” too; these are the students who are scoring 100% in an astonishing time span. The program is evolving as teachers are innovating to challenge one and all.
