The Illiteracy Eradicators (one of the groups for the PYP exhibition) went on a field trip to the MV India Camp for the school drop outs. There we were able to interact with these girls who were forced to drop out of the school for various reasons. At the camp these girls are given lessons starting from the scratch. They are then put in the groups according to their abilities to grasp. Then after a few months of bridge course they are sent go government schools either in grade 5 or grade 7. If there is a need they continue the bridge course for some more time. These girls are also taught extra-curricular activities such as singing and dancing. They were enthusiastic to show off their talents to us and we had good time enjoying their dance and song. Though we felt sad that these girls had to drop out of the schools and help their family in various ways. We also met one girl who was 17 years old and has never gone to school. This made us think that there is long way to go before we become 100% literate.
