The students of Grade -6 released the birds from cages as a part of the action taken for their POI unit. It was followed by the march past of all the Prefects and participating students in their smart white dresses. Education and awareness are essential elements of the ‘Green Ranger s ‘ initiative.

A Green Drive was planned, organised and conducted  in school  by the students of Grade XI IB on the 29 of November in the school campus. . Their efforts are truly commendable. The students distributed 350 bamboo shoots generously donated by the A.P.Forest Department. All the children were given some information about the plants they had acquired. The response was overwhelming and the shoots were picked up by enthusiastic junior school students within minutes.

Padma Priya one of the students actively participated in the activity besides Apoorv Saraogi, Akshat and Vivek from the Green Rangers Club. There were 15 other student volunteers who were also helped by the junior school children in shifting the plants inside the campus. It was good to see the junior school students  put up a sincere effort in helping their seniors. This initiative by the students goes to reflect their understanding of the role of plants and animals in nature, their commitment in promoting tree plantation and in creating awareness on the ill effects of deforestation.

To make sure everyone associated with OIS  gets a tree friend we will be getting more saplings and doing a repeat performance of the  event.

Teachers Speak -Transdiciplinary Workshop

The Transdiciplinary workshop conducted by Ms. Aditi Singh on Day 1 started with grouping strategies relating to the importance of team work, for example, CORI strategy for jigsaw puzzle. Various outdoor activities were conducted to show the same, for example, balancing activities within a group.

The day ended with discussions on the Essential Elements of the PYP.

On Day 2 the session started with Presentations on Transdiciplinary Skills and Attitudes and their relevance in day to day activities .Teams were asked to present an activity integrating Skills and Attitudes across various disciplines.

During the day teachers were able to get an insight into various Concepts, on building a central idea at various levels and their application in the real world.

The six Transdiciplinary themes were introduced with activities, for example, each team to present their understanding on each theme.

This helped teachers to get an insight into various themes, skills and attitudes .

Day 3 started with introduction on ‘Concepts’ which is one of the Essential Elements of PYP. “Concepts are Timeless, Diverse in Culture and have Global Significance”.

Various activities were conducted to show the similarities and differences between Concepts and Facts, for example, Sorting out activity.

Later During the day, Teachers from Concept workshop were asked to connect with Td workshop Participants to prepare a ‘Planner’ on the central Idea related to their academics.

This planner was prepared integrating various disciplines across.

The 3 day Workshop Conducted by MS.Aditi Singh was Relevant, Engaging and Significant.

The Teachers responded very well during the entire session. It was a good learning experience for the teachers of Pre-Primary and Primary school.

The excitement in the wonderfully colourful Nursery Room was palpable as we entered day 3 of the by-now-established-super-fun "Transdisciplinary Workshop". After loads of games, activities, innovative grouping strategies & learning of course, over the first 2 days, we eagerly looked forward to our last day with not only each other but our facilitator - Ms. Aditi Singh.

Commencing the day with 'Thinking Big' (some notes for reading which were handed out the previous evening) an activity that really got us rolling for the day, we moved into "TD Themes" - after being split into 6 groups - reading them, deconstructing, interpreting our way & then group-wise presenting it in whatever format each group chose. So of course, there was dance, drama, music, charts, charm & loads of majja!

We continued the day - interspersed with coffee & lunch breaks for sure - with a lovely PPT presentation on "Units of Inquiry" (with art as its core subject matter) and a hilarious video that depicted how none of the essential elements were being put to use!!

As the 'Concepts' team joined us, a concrete planning session transpired, based on "Central Ideas" & "Concepts" with teachers from various fields. As we watched 3 more lovely videos, we were acutely aware that 3 super learning days in the most FUN way were drawing to a close! And learn lots we did!

It sure was a week-end well spent...even if it was at school!!

The students of Grade VI are geared up to present the PYP Exhibition. The preparations have gathered momentum and the excitement is palpable. It all began with the learning to learn week in June, where the students saw previous years’ exhibition videos and reflected upon them. Then came the time for setting personal goals and doing self assessment. In process they learnt about things like multiple intelligence and academic honesty. Finally, the children were given the theme for the exhibition “Sharing the Planet”. The students picked up key ideas from the theme and were asked to make personal connections. After that the children came up with the issues to which they could relate to personally. After the entire process was over, the children came up with nine major issues. They are: Child Labour, Deforestation and Animal Rights, Pollution, Global Warming, Illiteracy, Conflict Resolution, Poverty, Human Rights and Waste Management. The students have formed their inquiry groups and are geared up to do meaningful research.
