Reading is an integrated part of our Language curriculum. Reading is a habit which makes a person more knowledgeable, confident and self managed. It develops our concentration, vocabulary and comprehending skills. By reading, unknowingly we tend to research for the unknown and clarify our doubts on any topic. As the proverb goes “Books are our best friends”, we are never alone with a book by our side. It’s a silent friend who only gives.
To cultivate this habit of reading, we at grade 3 have started a reading programme-Book Bingo. It is a well designed culmination of 16 tasks related to reading books of different genre. It includes reading fairy tales, encyclopedia, chapter book, biography, news article, poem to name a few. Every task has a follow up activity in the form of presenting, enacting, dressing-up as favourite character, report writing, retelling the story, making a book worm. The children are undoubtedly charmed by the varied range of tasks and activities. They all are competing with each other to be the one to finish the reading bingo first. The dressing up as favourite character was presented in way that the entire class got transported to that fairy land. The range of activities being presented in the class is unbelievable. A few samples of the tasks done by our students for this reading bingo are given below as an appreciation towards them.
