Visit to the Agri biotech Foundation

The students of Biology, IBDP 12, visited the Agri Biotech Foundation (ABF) in Rajendra Nagar. The ABF’s main objective is to promote application of agricultural bio-technologies for the benefit of farmers as agricultural biotechnology is one of the most rapidly growing technologies in the history of agriculture ever known to mankind.

We first met the Chairman along with two other professors who gave us a brief talk about biotechnology. We then moved to the tissue culture labs and saw how banana plants are propagated and stored. These plants are moved to the net house after a few weeks where they are grown under particular conditions. They also showed us how microbes are used in the field of agriculture and showed us the equipment they use as well. They have a vermi compost pit where they took us and showed us the worms and how they help the farmer.

Our trip to ABF was not only very informative but also fascinating as we got to look around and actually see how things were done, especially the tissue culture. Apart from agriculture biotechnology, we also learnt about gene technology from the talk given by the Chairman.
