The MUN Experience

Oak MUN 2012 was organized in the Oakridge Newton campus for the second consecutive year. The event was a huge success with 300 plus delegates across schools in Hyderabad and also from Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr. Leonard Hirsch from the U.S. delegation to the Convention on Biological Diversity. He is also the Senior Policy Advisor and a representative to the U.S. Global Change Research Program and the US Group on Earth Observations.
The students were involved in active debate for three days of the conference with topics that covered legislation on HIV, the decommissioning of Nuclear Reactors and related environmental consequences, the future of nanotechnology to name a few.

Some responses from students who registered as individual delegates from other schools:

It was a very memorable session. The only problem was probably the confusion regarding the venue, and transport was a bit of a challenge. In a few cases, the Chairs seemed a little distracted. Aside from that, it was great, and I look forward to returning.

The sessions were really good, and so was the delegate dance. I personally as a first time MUN participant I had a great learning experience! Overall, the Oak MUN 2012 was an amazing experience thanks to my chair in UNEP, the organizers and my friends!

The event was very well organized and everyone from the FIITJEE delegation had a great time! However, the change in venue at the last moment proved to be a logistical issue as Katriya is more centrally located and commuting was a problem for some of us.
