Rituals and traditions provide a window into the beliefs and values of
cultures. As the Unit of Inquiry ‘Culture’ is coming to an end, students were
given an interesting task of forming their own culture as Summative Assessment.
Medium of presentation included: Tableau, Visuals, and Role Plays.
After learning about some of the major international and national
cultures, students of Grade VI were able to create and design their own culture
by developing various components and elements of culture. Interesting part was
how students analysed certain advantages and drawbacks of all the cultures and
formed their own by assimilating the principles from many cultures.
They were able to justify their points on how the practice of Sati
system, child marriage, female foeticide, etc., have been banned and declared
illegal by the Constitution of India and how these social reforms have helped
the society to grow and develop.
Most cultures created by the students depict happiness, growth, and modern
thinking based on science and technology. Students have been given the
opportunity to pioneer in social reformations and are confident that they can
play their part in making a difference.
