On the 15th of February, we, the students of Oakridge (Grade XI IB),
visited the home for the disabled. Soon
enough, we understood that the 80-odd people there were not disabled but were
super-abled. The hard obstacles in their way only made them stronger and more
equipped to face the world.
To our surprise, most of them were extremely talented and innovative.
They were excited and happy to show us their creations, which were beautifully
crafted out with lots of energy and patience. They also demonstrated the
process of making paper cups, plates, and bags from newspapers and used papers.
We distributed chocolates and fruits to them, which made their day.
Unlike all of us who are tangled in our troubles and miseries, these
people were happy souls who found joy and delight even in the small things in
life. Most of them only wanted someone who could listen and understand their
feelings and emotions. Thus, we were only too happy to spend time and converse
with them, filling their hearts with love and affection. We made them laugh,
giggle, sing and even dance with us. Their situation made us realize how lucky
and fortunate we are. This experience was really memorable and extraordinary.
