Monday, 27 January,
2014 was a great day for the Senior School at Newton campus as we all gathered
in the MPH at 8:25 AM to reward the winners of the first round of OAKCHAMP Term
One. The parents of all the nominees were invited as the top 3 scorers of each
grade level for Term One were awarded prizes and badges. Apart from the
top scorers, the students who scored 40 points and above and maintained
portfolios were also given surprise gifts. Term Two points will be added to Term
One points and, towards the end of the academic term 2013-14, the final OAKCHAMPS
will be declared.
The award ceremony began with a
welcome address by our Principal Captain Rohit Sen Bajaj which was followed by
a prayer and the school song. In his address, Capt. Bajaj professed that at
Oakridge we aim at holistic education which does not exist in a single,
consistent form and emphasized on education of the student beyond the confines
of the classroom. The purpose of introducing the Championship awards to the students
is to identify the efforts of outstanding students who demonstrate excellence
in co-curricular activities.
Recognising the students and
awarding them with the title of OAKCHAMP would
definitely move the concept of a child-centred educational approach to a much
more radical programme of education. He thanked the parents for taking time off
their hectic schedule on a Monday morning to attend the award ceremony to
encourage the students and also to collate evidences in their portfolios. He further
announced that the final OAKCHAMPS will be
eligible to go on an International trip.
The Principal’s address was
followed by a video on Term One achievements and distribution of awards by Capt.
Bajaj, the Vice Principal of CBSE Curriculum Ms. Hema Chennupaty, and the Vice
Principal of International Curriculum Mr. Biju Baby.
