On
29th December, 2013, my dad informed that there was a CAS activity
organised for Spoorthi foundation by Oakridge International School and gifting
Smiles at Smiline Dental Hospitals which was a free dental health awareness and
treatment programme.
14 Oakridge
students of Grade 11 participated as volunteers and 46 children of Spoorthi
foundation (Oakridge sub staff children) were treated at Smiline. After seeing
the voluntary work of other students, even I was enthusiastic to volunteer. But
I was feeling shy to participate. Then the chief doctor encouraged me to
volunteer.
We Oakridgers played a major part in organising the activity
by helping the staff in the treatment chambers, filling the details of the
patients, coordinating the movement of children in an organised way in the
hospital as well as educating them on dental health.
The Spoorthi children who had no cavities were awarded with
cavity-free certificates. The volunteers were also awarded with participatory
certificates. At the end of the programme, we had a group photo with the Smiline
team. We also distributed complimentary toothpastes to the Spoorthi children. At
the end of the day, I was happy to be a part of the activity. I learnt that we
can gift smiles by helping needy people.
