The book-reading project for the month of April was the classic ‘The
Count of Monte Cristo’ by Alexandre Dumas. This was the last book-reading
project for this academic year. In order to make the book reading interesting
and informative, it was decided that this time the students would be given a
choice of doing a travelogue, comic strip, movie script or a journal entry. The
students took to this project with great enthusiasm. They also put forward a
number of books that they would like to read in the next academic year.
30% of the students did a travelogue and it was interesting to read
their perspective on a classic.
20% of the class did a diary or journal entry from 10 chapters of the
book.
20% of the class submitted a comic strip based on their favourite
chapter and character. The class seemed excited that the comic strip would be a
part of the book-reading project in the next academic year.
30% of the class wrote a book review and summary of the book. It was interesting to read the students’ opinions
of the protagonist in the book and many of them had ideas on what could have
been done to extract revenge from the other characters.
Students were assigned some holiday reading of their choice and asked
to write a movie script or a travelogue or an article about the book to a
newspaper.
