Student’s Reflection: Tyagaraja Aradhana — Fascinating Assembly

We had Tyagaraja Aradhana at school. Sri Tyagaraja is also known as Tyagayya — he was one of the greatest composers of Carnatic music. He composed thousands of devotional songs. He was born in 1767 in Tamil Nadu in a Telugu Brahmin family.

To celebrate this incredible day, the CCEP students from Grades III, IV, V, and VI set up a special assembly in the MPH. The program started with a lamp lighting ceremony. Sudhiksha and Amani from Grade V gave a short introduction on Tyagaraja and even entertained the audience. After this, there was 'Thought for the Day' and a special instrumental prayer played on the violin.

In honour of Tyagaraja Swami, we sang a melodious Tyagaraja Kriti “Sarasa Netra Para Guna...” in Sankarabharanam Ragam, Adi Talam. About 30-40 students sang the Kriti very beautifully accompanied by 12 students on the Tabla and 2 students on the Keyboard. All the children were dressed in traditional attire. I played the Tabla.

It was one of the best assemblies so far.

Sanjay – Grade VD
