Student’s Reflection: CAS Visit to Akshaya Patra

Feeding a child is not charity work but our social responsibility!! On March 28, 2014, we visited a government school followed by a visit to Akshaya Patra. Akshaya Patra is a non-profit organisation whose motto is to encourage education. Many under-privileged children have to skip school or quit studies as they are considered to be economic prosperity for their families.

To resolve this problem, Akshaya Patra promotes education by providing mid-day meals in schools. This satisfies both the concerns:  Human rights (food) and a well-established or secure future (education). Akshaya Patra is spread across 16 locations in India.

We had a fun, enriching, and heart-touching experience. We taught them few nursery rhymes. The immensely talented children showcased all-round excellence in music, dance, academic understanding, social skills, etiquette, sports and cinema dialogues.

After this visit, we decided to follow a positive approach in life — the optimistic and cheerful kids at Akshaya Patra really raised our spirits. We should live and let other people live. We had an opportunity to serve children; we also got our own food to donate. Later, we observed all the machinery and technology used to purify and remove foreign objects at the rice and pulses purification centre.

A Recapitulation of the Fabulous Experience: CAS means Creativity, Action, and Service; but, I feel that CAS also stands for Commitment/Concern Affiliated to Society.
