On the 20th of August the students of IB XI participated in the Chairman’s Cup for the very first time. The Chairman’s Cup is a means of polishing one’s public speaking abilities. As the IB curriculum is focused on all round development, this event really helped encourage the students’ communication skills.

The topic was: Academic achievements do not necessarily ensure success in life. Four groups of three students participated and expressed their views regarding this statement. There were many definitions of success floating around as well as the significance of academic achievements. The different perspectives really made the audience stop and ponder.

Bill Gates, of course, was a very popular example, but each group looked at his example differently. Moreover, it was interesting to see that students rated social skills and extra-curricular activities higher than academic achievement.

All the views were expressed very clearly and the participants emoted very well. They had kept the audience engaged till the very end. Overall, the entire event was a great success as we all learnt to look at things differently and consider the true meaning of success before we made any life decisions.
