Professional Development on Differentiated Instruction by Ms.Deborah Singh (IB MYP)

A session was held on Differentiated Instructions by Ms Deborah Singh for the MYP group.Ms. Deborah is an English expert (M.A English) for IB MYP classes and Post graduate diploma holder in Psycotherapy and Counselling. The session commenced with the concept of  What is Differentiation and why is it important. The objectives covered were ,Differentiation by process  and  Differentiation by product. It was interesting to know that differentiation by product can be done by the strategy of Scaffolding and differentiation by process by the strategy of Anchoring. It was felt that “Differentiate not discriminate” was the most important point to be taken away to the classrooms. Clear instructions on differentiating the process and product were given. In the process of evaluation of the product one has to keep in mind that formative assessment can be differentiated but it may not be done for summative assessment. Some Tips for implementing Differentiation in a classroom were given, like, start student files, start student portfolios ,use of technology, task cards etc. One can use the interesting  traffic lights strategy also to carry out Differential Instructions. The session concluded with the concept of Collaborating effectively for differentiated instructions.
