On 13th December
2013 as part of the CAS activity, grade X G Students embarked on a field trip to one of the government
schools situated nearby Oakridge International. The trip came as a complete
surprise as students were only told on the previous day that they would be
going. After departing from school after 4th period, we all endured a short bus
ride towards the government school.
The students were given the
responsibility of engaging the grade 1 to 5 kids in different activities. They
formed themselves into groups by taking over different grade students.
Rhea, Sneha, Supriya and Nishta started teaching dance steps for the kids and
they were all learning with enthusiasm. Nitya, Bharathi, Rajitha and Shivani took
incharge of another class. They took them all to the playground and started
teaching them a lot of interesting activities. The kids were so excited and
Oakridgers were all engrossed with them.
Nidhi, Ankitha and Ruhitha
were appreciated for coming ready with paints, sketch pens, papers and other
stationery items. They trained the students to draw and paint; the kids came
out with their creativity. Finally, Ruhitha called out the names of those
students whose paintings were the best and gave away prizes to them. Nidhi and
Ankitha didn’t want to disappoint the other kids, so they gave away small gifts
to the other children too in the class.
Finally, came the turn for
the boys of the class. Karthik, Arun, Joseph, Dharma, Sanjay, Naren, Surya,
Rohit, Rohan, Varun and Sufiyan made themselves into groups and took charge of
the students from the remaining classes. They played cricket and football with
the kids and taught them how they could improve in their sports. The kids were
so thrilled with the boys of X G that they were not ready to leave them. The
children made Oakridgers feel as if they were celebrities.
The clock chimed 12.30 pm
and it was lunch-time for the kids. They lined up with their plates in hand for
the food provided by the school and we all returned to school with a heavy
heart filled with benevolence, care and empathy towards the kids.
The trip was wonderful and I hope that the future
grade 10 students also are fortunate enough to get such an opportunity to
portray their creativity, action and service.
