This morning, our Math teacher gave us a question
that kept our brains thinking. This was the question:
On a farm there were some hens and some sheep.
Altogether there were 8 heads and 22 feet. How many hens were there?
It took us a few minutes to discuss with our groups
and come up with the answer. Since there were 8 heads, there had to be 8
animals. But how many of each? Then we put down how many feet a hen had and
also a sheep. And we had to get 8 animals. So we figured out, it was 5 hens and
3 sheep. It was a very nice thought-provoking activity.
