International Happiness Day

We've often heard people say 'make a difference in whatever way you can'. I would like to share a story I read in a recent issue of Reader's Digest about a li'l boy who made a DIFFERENCE to a day in his dad's life. The boy recalls an incident that happened when he was 9. He watched his dad come home from work very late tired and weary. The boy followed him to the bedroom ranting all the way just about anything that he could think of. He asked his dad if he should leave considering his father needed to relax. The father gave him a smile conveying that he did not want his son to leave. The little boy then started talking about a movie he had seen 'voicing out' all the characters until the father found himself in peals of laughter. The father told his son that he always made him 'feel better and less tired'. The boy was surprised 'he could actually do a thing like that'. The father said 'YOU DO'. The boy treasured those two simple words in his head and felt great about having used his 'tiny talent' to make a difference to his dad's day.
This little anecdote made me realize that when it comes to giving a smile to someone we hold ourselves back without realizing that a little cheering and a smile can work wonders with people around us. So the next time you meet your friends or your co workers do not forget to spread those smiles because you will notice that you did make a DIFFERENCE to someone.   International Happiness Day is celebrated on the 10th of July and I think it is a good opportunity for all of us to resolve to keep ourselves happy, spread warmth and love and 'make the world a better place to live in'.
