Competion Success (Grade IV)

As part of the Independence Day Celebrations in the community that he lives, Ankush of Grade IV B participated in a competition on Public Speaking. Ankush who is 9yrs old won the 1st Prize for his speech on Global Warming.  He was pitted against 11 & 12 yr olds from DPS & Chirec.  We were indeed very proud of him.

Here are a few excerpts from his speech:

“Today I’ve chosen to speak about this topic because India is one of the most vulnerable countries when it comes to global warming. India has a vast coastal line and the rising sea levels caused by global warming will wreak an ecological havoc in the country. We keep reading about rising temperatures and sea levels in other parts of the world like United States and the U.K. and have shut our eyes and minds towards the threat that is looming large right at our doors!  India has to accelerate its efforts to combat global warming and not just talk about mitigating it. I’ve highlighted the following   4ways.
1.     Electricity should be produced by using new techniques as the present method of Thermal Power Plants is one of the major reasons of Global warming.
2.      Farmers should practice Eco-Friendly Green Farming. The rampant usage of Fertilizers &Pesticides has to be stopped. Conserve crops that can be used to generate Bio-Fuels.
3.       To promote an eco-friendly way of transportation, and to improve fuel efficiency, we need to Carpool more often.
4.      We need to make a conscious effort to move away from fossil fuel combustion and Gasoline usage to other Alternate energy sources like Solar, Wind etc.
As John F Kennedy once said, “Our problems are man- made; therefore it is only the same man who can solve these”.
It is high time now that we join our hands together and combat this. I’ve come up with a few ways in which I can do my bit, and I hope you will too.
1.      Use eco-friendly transport like cycle as often as possible.
2.      Conserve Electricity
3.      Save Water n stop wastage
4.      Plant more Trees
5.      Try and keep my House, My Community & my City Green.”
