Reflections on Developing ICT Skills Workshop

On Saturday 16th November, We conducted a workshop on Developing ICT Skills for both CIE and CBSE teachers. We introduced "Scratch" software. Basically Scratch is an educational programming language and multimedia authoring tool that can be used by pupils, teachers, and parents for a range of educational and entertainment constructivist projects from math and science projects, including simulations and visualizations of experiments, recording lectures with animated presentations, to social sciences animated stories, and interactive art and music. Simple games can be made with it, as well. Teachers enjoyed a lot while playing with sprites, changing backgrounds and creating their own stories.

I had a pile of trials answer scripts waiting to be marked and the CIE Saturday's schedule showed a "Developing ICT Skills Workshop" and I was wondering if I would be whiling away time by going to the ICT lab but I was wrong and somehow we pushed ourselves to the ICT lab. Little did we know about the surprise awaiting us.

Ms. Simrit and Ms. Shikha introduced us to software named "Scratch". It is a toolkit which allows kids and elders to make games, animated stories, interactive art, and share with others on the Net.

We learnt how to use the software and all the inbuilt features such as motion, sound, and control. I created a sprite and picked out a picture of a dog from the software which was inbuilt and put motion into it and we could even control the motion, the angle of rotation etc. Oh!! So many innumerable features in it!!

I feel really happy that I attended the workshop and thank you so much for organizing such wonderful workshops. It is truly said by Mahatma Gandhi, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”

Oops!! Forgot about the answer scripts, let me get back to them till the "scratch software" gets downloaded in my laptop.
