CAS Visit to MMPS on 1st July

On the 1st of July, class IX A went to MLPS Government School as a part of our CAS experience. The class was divided into five different groups. Each group was to teach each grade. The entire class was very excited and was greeted by students who held the mutual feelings in their face. We went to our respective grades to start our teaching. The group that I was in was teaching grade II. At first, we had a few communication problems with the students, but we overcame our struggles later on. We started our session by introducing ourselves, and then asking them to draw something that was close to their hearts. After their drawing was complete, we asked them to explain why they had drawn that particular drawing, which gave them a bit more confidence in speaking aloud. After that, we had a series of small games planned out to them along with some ice breakers. A few of the students were not that attentive, but we immediately took the responsibility and leadership to help them understand better. The students had thoroughly enjoyed along with us. The only downside of our visit, was that we only had an hour to bond with the students. We look forward to our next visit to MMPS.

I would like to start this write up by saying that this was one of the most thrilling experience of CAS till date. We started off with mixed feelings, we were unsure of what to expect as it was our first time going to a government school. People generally expect nothing when you study in a government school. But from what I saw they are very smart and excited when we entered their school. They were enthusiastic and to be truthful, we barely had to work to make them understand. This totally changed my point of view on government schools. I think this helped me become a better team player. This has also helped in realizing how lucky we were as we had all the things we required. I thank Oakridge for organizing this trip.

On the 1st of July we the students of class XI A went to MLPS Public school. We started at around 9am and reached the school by bus. As we reached the school, we saw that all the students were waiting outside to greet us with a sweet smile on their faces. We were divided into 5 groups, each were supposed to take a Grade up to 5th grade. A group of 4 formed a group and set up a library. I was in a group with my friends and we did various activities, from drawing to playing games. We started off with a brief explanation about ourselves and gave them a few tasks to do. The experience was quiet interesting. We took 2nd Grade so we had to be quite strict to control them. They had lots of fun with us and so did we. Firstly, they were given to draw a picture of what they wanted to become after they grew up and talk about it later, we put up games through which we taught them alphabets. Finally, we put up a talent show and gave few children chocolates for those who danced or sang. After all it was the best experience ever!

I would like to start this report by saying that the trip was the best CAS trip I have ever been to. We were divided into 6 different groups assigned to teach the students different subjects or arts. Each group was assigned a Grade which they had to teach, and one group had to clean the office room. The date was the 1st of July 2014. We were extremely excited by the fact that we would go for a CAS trip. We left at 9:30 and as soon as we had entered the bus we had mixed feelings. We were not sure of what to expect and how we were to teach a Telugu-medium government school when more than half of our class couldn't speak Telugu. As soon as we reached the school, the children ran out to greet us. The name of the school was MLPS Government School. In the school there were five Grades (Grades 1-5). I, at first greeted the children and then the teachers assigned me to clean the office room, after which I was assigned to teach the fifth grade. My group and I were responsible for teaching them maths. We also did quiz competition and whenever a child got the answer right, we gave them candy. After doing a series of quizzes and teaching the student numbers, we needed to leave. After saying goodbye to the students, we left the school at 11:00 am. On the bus, we talked about how each of the students had done in particular. It was overall my best CAS experience.
Highlights:
Since this is the focus school, the students made up the principal’s office which was very shabby. A total of 161 books was donated to the school.
