We all have had, as children our best memories of the train journeys made by us to our grandparents & uncle’s houses during our school summer holidays. Times have changed but still there is a certain charm and character of Indian railways. We thought of exposing our 2nd graders to this very charm and experience during their inquiry unit on ’transportation’.
We planned a short train journey on the MMTS for them. Experiential learning was the focus. It was a learning curve for 2nd Grader’s at OIS when each day nearly 70  enthusiastic parents, grandparents, uncles & aunts came together to take children from grade 2 on this experiential field trip from Lingampally to Hi-tech city in the MMTS.
The smiles were equally on the faces of children & the parents. We could sense that parents were also reminded of their childhood making these journeys.
It was a great achievement due to team effort where the school, parents and the railway administration came together and made this visit a thorough learning experience for our 2nd graders.

  1. Overall a fabulous experience!
Participants enjoyed it thoroughly! Our goal was to teach children about the function of this transportation system. We ended with a huge score when even parent participants reflected saying 'we had never used the MMTS before but now we certainly will use this convenient public transport'. So much for SHARING THE PLANET and using public transport. Learning for all! Kudos to all participants!!!

  2. Yes truly an incredible experience which was cherished by all parents, teachers as well as children. It revived my college memories going on a train when I was a hostler. The parents’ enthusiasm and the teacher’s determination made this learning experience successful.

At first when our dear coordinator Anu informed us that we would take our kids on MMTS train I thought it would be a difficult task. Our coordinators through planning, our parent’s constant support and our team work helped us to have a successful journey. Thanks to our parents for supporting us.

The MMTS ride was a first for me too and I must say it was quite exciting and comfortable, with every minute detail totally taken care of. Be it Safety of the students or the Thank you card made for the Station Master who was eager to answer the queries of our young newtons and einsteins!!
    :)
Look forward to many more such lovely experiences from Oakridge International School.
Complete credit goes to Ms.Anuradha Sawhney for the vision that this was a task which could be made possible and making sure it was a Grand success.
Exuding Positivity, Ms Anu is a person whom I look up to and have a lot to learn from!
