BOOK REVIEW- THE SECRET OF PLATFORM 13

Vibhawari Jammi
VIII F

The book “Platform 13” has been written by the cherished author Eva Ibbotson, who is an award winner mainly for fiction based books for young adults.

In this book, Platform 13, there is a world hidden behind a “gump” in platform 13 at the Kings Cross Station, which opens every nine years for nine days to create a gateway for the most mysterious and magical creatures that exist. The King and Queen of the hidden island have lost their child because of his nurses’ mistake in London to a “beastly” lady Mrs. Trottle, who yearned for a child. Now a rescue group consisting of an ogre, a wizard, a fey and a young hag of the prince’s age have come to rescue the prince after nine years, and they find quite a sticky situation ahead of them, with the prince turned out to be a spoilt boy called Raymond Trottle. With the help of a friendly boy Ben, they venture through London in their efforts to save Raymond.

The reader is sure to travel along with the characters’ twists and turns across fantasy, adventure, comedy, emotion and suspense along the story. Ibbotson make the reader feel what the characters feel, and hope that everything goes right. The fun is enough to make one laugh aloud and the emotion is enough to see the reader shedding tears.

A book for the fiction lovers .
