Grade I’s Field Trip to the Birla Science Museum

With reference to the on-going unit of inquiry “Forces”, the children of Grade-1 went for a field trip to the Birla Science Museum. Our enthusiastic learners inquired about simple machines that they see in their everyday life. They were awestruck to learn that these scientific objects have an impact on our lives. While exploring around the museum our children kept relating to the type of forces that they are learning in class.

Learners’ verbatim:

If we use energy then the work is done: - Vineet Jai Chitturi

I really liked the pulley because it reminded me of muscular force and it is very scientific: -Shravan.

We learnt about friction. Things on a smooth slide went faster than the rolling slide: -Mitansh

Today I learnt about different types of pulleys, ramps, wheels, screws and simple machines which really make our life easier. I was able to connect it with the central idea
: -Meghna

  1. Lovely pictures. Thanks for sharing. The Birlas are one of the biggest names associated with the industrial development in India. They are the pioneers in the field of Science and technology in the country. The Birla group has taken this initiative in Kolkata and had established a museum to display their achievements and offer opportunity for the younger generation to learn the basic concepts of science.
