The ice breaker camp is an event that takes place
every year for IBDP students(11,12) which plays a major role in forming a
healthy bond between the students of the IBDP fraternity and helps enliven
their journey through the IB Diploma Programme .The students often have some
very breath-taking experiences which aid the students in developing an ideal
personality and shape up their skills in creativity, leadership ,etc .The Ice-Breaker camp ,as the name suggests
,is a platform where all conventions are broken to form new friendships,
acquaintances ,interactions with co-IB students, develop a connection with the
IBDP fraternity and make the journey through IBDP and beyond, more exhilarating
.
This year, the Ice Breaker camp took place in Vikarabad (about 50km from Hyderabad )on 11th and 12th of July . As the students reached the venue, they began with a range of activities like Zip-lining, Zorbing , Burma rope, Cargo net climbing ,etc. The students were divided into groups and the first task given was to make logos for the team within 30 minutes. The best logo was awarded points and a head start over the rest.
After a series of activities in the morning the students had a sumptuous lunch and evening brought with it a very interesting activity that most students showed a lot of enthusiasm in. The assignment was to make a track for a soccer ball with a hump or elevation that it should go over without any external force. The 30 minutes that followed were memorable to every student who took part in the event. The evening heard cheers, cries, exclamations and a whole lot excitement .This activity was one that built team spirit in the students and nurtured leadership skills that are very essential for a student’s overall development. The day ended with the students reflecting upon their experiences through the day and articulating what they had learnt through the day and experience. This was followed by a DJ session during which students, developed a sense of bonding with their seniors, juniors and co-mates .
The day 2 began with an early start at 6:30 am with a trek (around 3km) to a neighboring hill. It was a refreshing experience for all the students and also a momentous event for them. After arriving back to the camp, the students did more team-building activities after which a series of award presentations took place for “camp boy”, “camp girl”, “best team”, “best speaker”, etc. The students then departed with a ‘suitcase of memories’ that they would never forget and a confidence that would help them through their journey in life. They developed the courage to face ups and downs, new situations and to cope with them. A heartwarming experience that words cannot articulate-The Ice Breaker camp.
A student thus writes her experience of trekking in the ice breaker camp,
Rock by rock, I absorb the hills,
As the rest of the world unfolds beneath. I feel like I am on top of the world. The sweat trickling down my face only emphasizes my victory.
