Students at Oakridge turned Green Crusaders launching a cleanliness drive covering parts of Khajaguda village. The campaign was flagged off by the Principal Capt.Rohit Bajaj who unfurled the banner Keep Clean Keep Green. The students undertook the campaign as part of their community service program. There was a group of 100 students who walked around the streets of Khajaguda picking up trash and garbage from all nook and corners of the lanes. There was whole hearted participation by the students and a good initiative on the part of the school to involve the students in a cause that created a sense of awareness and responsibility among students towards the well being of their community. The idea behind the campaign was to sensitise people on the significance of the three R's. ..REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE. Verdentum an NGO floated by the student community was also a part of this campaign. The waste collected was segregated and sent for recycling.

There is no garbage that cannot be picked up
On the 6th of August, the 11th graders of OIS collaborated together to clean up the area around our school so as to contribute towards the saving of the environment. This activity was initiated by our school and an organization called Verdentum that sets up such cleaning drives. Therefore, equipped with a couple of gunny bags, picking tools and enviro-“mental” minds, we set off to make a difference.
Initially the task at hand seemed very disgusting-wading around in garbage was not exactly how we wanted to spend our Saturday. However, after some time we realized that there was a lot of garbage to be picked up and each retrieved piece of plastic meant one less piece of plastic bothering Mother Earth. We were also very careful to segregate all the garbage we collected into bags of paper, plastic, rubber or glass. All of the garbage collected will be recycled.
Kruti Koppolu of class 11 IB said, “It made me realise that if you put your mind to it, you can definitely make a difference and that difference always counts, no matter how small.”
It was wonderful to be working together as a team because everybody was equally enthusiastic. Everybody was very energetic and we were even willing to climb into pits and ditches to scoop out the trash. Overall, this experience has been a unique one and has taught us to take risks as the outcome may be very rewarding.
