Reading and writing difficulties in young children. An interpretation for teachers.
The supportive Instruction unit had an orientation session about special needs with activities and language faculty [Junior School] on 29th July 2011. It was an interactive session with Dr. Shakila Naidu clinical psychologist O.I.S.
Ms. Naidu spoke about inclusive classrooms, changes in education, screening procedures and types of difficulties to look for in young children.
I had the privilege to speak about the functioning of the S.I unit – the referral, Individual education plan and the assessments. A lot of queries were raised by the language teachers about how to deal with children who have learning difficulties in language classrooms. Classroom management and teaching strategies were shared. The session was planned for creating awareness in the school about learning difficulties in children.
