Practical Banking by Business Studies 9th Graders

Methodology: Students will choose any bank (private or public) of their choice. They will collect different types of documents used by the bank for e.g. Cash deposit slips, withdrawal slips, Account opening forms, ATM forms, credit card application forms and any other forms available at the counter in any bank.
After students have collected the documents mentioned above. They will paste the documents in a scrap book or file and write 2 lines on each document (the purpose of the voucher) and submit to the teacher.

“When we entered the bank and asked the receptionist for the application forms and other vouchers, it felt very formal and it was like we were actually applying for a bank account. We also learnt a lot about banks and how they operate and what they offer customers. We also learnt that are two main types of bank accounts namely current and saving accounts.
We think the assignment will be really helpful in our future when we actually encounter banks.” (Reflections by Sushmit, Advay, Pranay & Mohak of Grade IX, CIE)

“On 28th July 2013, the students of grade 9 (IGCSE) were given the privilege of conducting research by Ms. Siby Gladis, the Business Studies teacher. It was a Practical banking Project. We had to make a scrap book of different forms to be filled at banks. The first step was to visit a bank nearby and collect various forms. Honestly, we first felt downtrodden and unenthusiastic, mainly because we thought it practically difficult to borrow forms from banks for our project.
Finally, we successfully accomplished the project and it proved very informative. Because of this project, we understood what forms to fill in order to do a particular task. It also made us socially responsible and independent. It gave us experience for the future. We are extremely honoured to do this project and we hope the future 9th graders get this opportunity.” (Reflections by Aakanksha, Anusha.G,SwethaMaganti of Grade IX, CIE)

“From the project, I obtained knowledge due to the practical exposure we received. I am proud to say that I can now explain how every document works. From the demand draft which is used to pay organizations, all the way to the wire transfer used to transfer money from your account to another bank user. I hope I could do a project like this once more, I really feel I have attained a head start in life due to this project.” (Reflections by Ruthwik Bhupatiraju)
