On
September 3rd, 2013 the 10th CIE’s first Chairman’s Cup
took place. The debate started off with riveting speeches from Ruhitha Reddy
and Nitya Mangina (students of class 10 G) that truly set the fire off. They
spoke for the topic “The Death Penalty Should is banned.” They argued that
innocent people could be given the death sentence due to lack of evidence and
that there is a pretty good chance of a murderer framing an innocent
person. Sameer Himati and Varun D.
stated that a person wouldn’t face the fate that they deserved for their crimes
if the Death Penalty is banned. They also pointed out that it scares people and
prevents them from doing any crimes. The moderators, Arun Kumar (X G) and C.
Chandana (X H), reviewed the points discussed.
The
discussion got really intriguing when Abhiram (of class 10 H) stood up to voice
his point of view. There was a fascinating debate between Ruhitha and Abhiram
that made everyone really think about the discussion point. The audience also
began to speak up and support the two. Abhiram spoke against the topic while
Ruhitha debated for the topic. Someone from the audience even put in their
views as to what should be done instead of a death penalty to the most
horrendous criminals.
