Formative assessment in Grade VI entails fourth
line of inquiry. The topic for the assessment was ‘Causes and effects of
deforestation and conservation of natural vegetation’.
It was conducted in class using an interesting
strategy named POOCH (problem – option – outcomes – choice – how did it turn
out?). This strategy encourages students to think innovatively, weeding out the
irrelevant aspects and fostering a clear understanding and coming out with
their understanding on the topic.
It was heartening to see the children coming out
of their shell and participating with great enthusiasm and coming out with
innovative ideas. All in all, it was a rewarding experience both
to the students and the teachers.
