Reflections on Shopping Trip to Hypercity!

A trip to Hypercity was a wonderful learning experience for our young learners of grade 2. Kids had a fantastic run-through with their shopping lists and were busy exploring different products and food groups they belong to. They showed enthusiasm while comparing the prices and selecting the best products within their budget. As they moved through the store, they had hands-on experience about healthy choices. This association will help them understand how and what they eat can help them grow up healthy. We thank the Parent volunteers who have made a difference by mentoring and guiding the children throughout the shopping processes.

This shopping extravaganza will remain as an awesome opportunity explored by our little ones to become smart shoppers as they learn and grow with healthy and smart choices.

Parent Reflections:

Today I had this awesome opportunity to accompany some energetic kids from class 2B to Hypercity supermarket. As we entered the classroom, we were greeted with a very peppy 'good morning' wishes from the kids. Their excitement was much evident on their faces and these little Oakridgers were all set to go out and explore. Since the kids were well prepared in advance and knew the details of what they had to shop with a thorough understanding about the budgeting factor, my job became a little easier. They were well versed with the colors of the food pyramid. They could easily visualize the different food groups and could talk about healthy foods.

Finding out about sugar and fiber content in their favorite food was a tough lesson for the kids. They were all disappointed to find their brand is high in sugar and low in fiber, which they now understand is considered a sometimes food, not an always food. They did learn the importance of reading the label and its ingredients as well as the expiry date of the product in addition to the cost factor. … Sudha Bhat

It was a wonderful experience. The kids are very intuitive and they are able to relate what is taught in the school to what we are experiencing at the store. They are very well behaved at the store by paying attention to different products under many labels and are able to take independent decisions based on what they have learned in the class.

Request you to involve me in many more such activities in future. Thanks a lot.
