Student Reflection on ‘Fair Play Award’ at the Chess Tournament - Grade X, IGCSE

On Monday 27th October, 5 of us from X G, Oakridge International School, went to Saint Andrews High School for attending the 10th annual Fr. Devasia chess tournament.

After an opening ceremony we started off with the first Round and ended up with a tie. That was the end of Day 1.

Day 2 started off with Round 2. We were matched up against Secunderabad Public School; even though Varun - a team member had played exceptionally the team ended up with a draw. After a short lunch break we had Round 3 against Saint Patrick’s High School; yet another time we had a draw.

Day 3: Our final day, we were determined to win today. Round 4 commenced with a slow running game on two boards, the other two boards tasted victory really fast giving us the upper hand in terms of points and confidence.

Round 5 was again a tie but we managed to grab the 5th spot out of 19 other teams.
For our disciplined behaviour and other sportive qualities our players have shown, our team was awarded with the Fair Play Award.

Although we felt bad about not winning the tournament, I would say we had loads of fun those three days and will be surely eager to go to many more tournaments like this one.
