COMFEST

COMFEST….A Report

The first IGCSE ComFest at Oakridge began with a quote that summed up the experience ‘coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” The commerce festival was organized in the IGCSE section to encourage students to work as a team and develop interpersonal skills. The day’s event was Ad ‘O’ Mania. There were seven groups who advertised an existing product in 5minutes or less.
All the groups put up their best and it was wonderful to watch the students come up with such innovative ideas. Ms Rajini, Ms Shalini and Ms Nagala, judged the competition.
The second day of the Comfest started off with a very intense topic on Global Food Crisis, an analysis of the reasons behind it and the timeline of the various famines since the 14th century.
Dr. Sridevi Assistant lecturer, Department of Economics, (our guest lecturer for the day) suggested that it was not just physical access to food but also economic power that accounts to consumption of food. Dr.Sridevi provided good insights to the children and stated that there is no single root cause to the problem but a host of factors leading to the crisis. The lecture was very informative and enlightening.
The third day of the ComFest witnessed groups of students displaying their advertising skills.  The groups had to come up with an advertising scheme based on the 3 Ps -  production, promotion and place. The audience was also given an opportunity to vote for their favorite product. The judges for the event were Ms.Rama, Ms.Nagamani and Ms.Indira.
The event provided a good platform for students to put up their creative best.
