Waste Management

In connection with our issue “Waste Management”, we went on a field Trip to a Sewage Water Treatment Plant in Pragati Nagar, Kukatpally. Once we reached there, Captain Bhaskar from Mailhem Engineers Pvt. Ltd. and the engineer of the plant, Mr. Digamabar took us around. They explained to us how the sewage water from the entire village is treated. We were surprised to know that about 25 lakh liters of sewage waste is treated every day. The sewage waste goes through different processes like anaerobic digester, settling tank, Activated Carbon Tank etc. The treated water is then used by the villagers for harvesting and plantations. The excess clean water is released in the nearby lake thereby preventing it from getting polluted. All in all it was a great learning experience and it certainly made us more aware about different waste management techniques.
