Reflections of Microsoft Campus Visit of ICT IGCSE Students

IGCSE students of ICT went for a field trip to Microsoft campus, Gachibowli on Friday, 1st November accompanied by ICT teachers Simrit Kaur and Shikha Maheshwari.

Students got exposure to work culture of one of the best IT companies all over the world. There was a session on Microsoft History by Ms. Debjani Mukherji and a technical session on networking concepts and Cloud technology by Mr. Surinderpal Singh. Students got an opportunity to Visit Microsoft’s Visitor centre where various products of Microsoft were displayed like Surface tablet; Windows 8-based phones, Kinect and Xbox. Field trip ended with a Campus tour of Microsoft.

The trip to Microsoft was an absolute delight. I, personally, was thrilled to see the campus and building number-3. My first impression of the place was just "wow!” So, first we were taken inside the green building number 3 itself. It was extremely well built and 80% of it could even be recycled!

We were given a small introduction to Microsoft and "cloud technology". It was really informative and it was very well explained. Moving on, we were to go to the visitor's centre where we saw all the Microsoft products and even had a chance to play the Xbox. This was probably the time we enjoyed the most.

Lastly, we went to the Microsoft store, and the trip came to an end with a campus tour.  The trip was full of fun and knowledge and would love to have more trips like these. I am also really thankful to our ICT teachers for organising this trip.

The trip to Microsoft was enlightenment at its best for ICT students.  We were plunged into the pool of future technology. First they introduced us to their company: Microsoft. They told us why their company was special and then showed us a video that seemed to have come from the future. They said it was going to come true in a few years. Then they taught us about Cloud Computing. At first it seemed like a cloud to us, with no proper shape and hard to understand. But as they talked to us about it, the mist cleared. Then we had a tour around Microsoft. The trip ended so fast. But the torch of knowledge was passed on.

On Friday November 1, 2013, at 11:00 am, we left for Microsoft. It was a wonderful experience and the office was really big. For some reason it did not feel like it was an office as the employees have courts for them to play and the office was fully secured.

We learnt a wide range of software and they showed us some videos which were really good and it was really interesting. We got a chance to go to the game centre and they let us play there for some time. At 1:20 pm, we left Microsoft and we were back to school.
